Karl Rove describes Barack Obama as 'articulate'
As the Associated Press reports, "Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama just can't escape the word articulate." The word is considered by many African-Americans to be an insult since there are "insidious underlying assumptions" behind its usage, whether intentional or not.

During a speech on Thursday at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, White House political adviser Karl Rove became the third political figure to use the word to describe Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL).

"He's charismatic, he's articulate, he's a very strong figure on the national stage," Rove said. "But something tells me that people are going to say experience and depth. As a result it's going to be, 'Can he live up to the standards?'"

2. For Rove, the "Articulate Effect" is intended.
It's his way of saying "talks better than the average darkie," and his intended audience gets the message.

16. I think it goes a step deeper...
In that sentence, it was intentionally made to look about as innocuous as it possibly could. I think Rove hopes to create an uproar from liberals...thereby making liberals look insane to those who might not fully grasp the nuance of such a "compliment."

However it was intended, there's a lot of stuff going on that's a lot more outrageous than this. Rove fully deserves to be ignored.

18. Maybe he said it, too
But the guy who got famous for saying it was Earl Butz, Secretary of Agriculture under Nixon and Ford.

You know, it isn't nearly as much fun to be a trivia whiz in the day of Google . . .

8. Y'know, when we can't use a perfectly legitimate word
in describing someone, political correctness has gotten out of hand.

10. Hmm, is rove running for office?
Other wise, why do we give a care what he is saying, his time is almost gone unless he has another candidate that he is riding the shirttails off. And exactly what standards has he got to live up to, bushs? I think the statement should be "he has a standard to live down to" if it is in regard to bush and this administration.

This next thing is said jokingly, but somewhat true. I am white and if I said this about Barack, 'I expected you to talk like a black person, but you speak just like I do!", I would be a racist but I would also be a lyar. Barack can speak ten times better than I can. :)
