Greg Palast - Bush's New US Atty a Criminal?
I heard him on Ring Of Fire today talking about this guy. Timothy Griffin, Karl Rove’s assistant, the President’s pick as the new US Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas was surprisingly :sarcasm: linked to a scam to "clean" the voter rolls of 70,000 minority voters. It's a great story that we'll probably never hear about in the US. Greg Palast is the man!

In October 2004, our investigations team at BBC Newsnight received a series of astonishing emails from Mr. Griffin, then Research Director for the Republican National Committee. He didn’t mean to send them to us. They were highly confidential memos meant only for RNC honchos.

However, Griffin made a wee mistake. Instead of sending the emails — potential evidence of a crime — to email addresses ending with the domain name “@GeorgeWBush.com” he sent them to “@GeorgeWBush.ORG.” A website run by prankster John Wooden who owns “GeorgeWBush.org.” When Wooden got the treasure trove of Rove-ian ravings, he sent them to us.

And we dug in, decoding, and mapping the voters on what Griffin called, “Caging” lists, spreadsheets with 70,000 names of voters marked for challenge. Overwhelmingly, these were Black and Hispanic voters from Democratic precincts.

The Griffin scheme was sickly brilliant. We learned that the RNC sent first-class letters to new voters in minority precincts marked, “Do not forward.” Several sheets contained nothing but soldiers, other sheets, homeless shelters. Targets included the Jacksonville Naval Air Station in Florida and that city’s State Street Rescue Mission. Another target, Edward Waters College, a school for African-Americans.

Oh and one other thing. Remember the letter that the fired prosecutors got telling them that if they talked to the press that the DOJ would come after them? Guess who wrote that letter? Yep. Tim Griffin. Now he's got a badge! This is how you get promoted in the Bush administration.

3. Greg Palast clued me in on why we're at war with Iraq!
I'm about 20% through his book called "Armed Madhouse". He puts forward the hypothesis that the neocons wanted to take Iraq in order to smash OPEC and the Bakerites (i.e. the State Department faction) wanted to take down Saddam in order to suppress oil production. If you look at what has happened to the price of oil recently, it seems the Bakerites have the upper hand.

Apparently, Saddam's #1 sin was his habit of erratic oil production. One week he would stop the flow in support of Palestine and the next, turn the spiggots all the way up to 11 (a'la Spinal Tap)!

So, you can see, Saddam's evil doer-ness and WMD's had very little to do with anything. I was also surprised to learn that Winston Churchill was the first leader to use WMDs on Iraq in the 1920s. Wow!

Greg Palast seems to get most things right in contrast to most other journalists who should simply admit their whoredom and go and f*ck themselves.

6. Palast is a real reporter
He also works for a real NEWS bureau the BBC. He was lamenting today about how some stories are front page all over the world that barely get mentioned on "the evening news".

8. It's a shame that he is so underappreciated
in his own country.

If he fabricated his stories, he would have been sued out of busines by now. His stories are bullet-proof because he knows that they have to be.

7. Amen bro. Too bad the Corporate media is more focused on profit than informing the people.
Greg was lamenting to the Ring Of Fire hosts about how it was nice to be on an American radio show and not have to out argue a bunch of RW Talking Point spouters.

I'll give you a call tomorrow. Wanna hook up with ya before you leave.
