19. Gasholes in L.A. have it at 3 bucks for regular, too -- nary a peep outta the media
This time, it's not really "news" -- since we're used to it, right? Just bend over in weary silence, shuffle off to work, etc...

Here in southern CT it's heading back to $3. Currently $2.80.

6. And we have not had any inflation since then?

I'm not saying we have to sustain a $3.00 a gallon mark but is 1.40 a gallon a reasonable price?

10. Of course there is inflation. The price will go up accordingly.
I was posing this question to the FReepers who were complaining about "high oil prices" in 2000. :eyes: You hear nothing from them now.

I got gas near the end of the clinton term below a dollar.
It was a welcome flashback to the gas wars of antiquity.

4. We're back up to 3.00+ in SoCal
I saw a thing on the local news here in L.A. and they actually ended it by saying "This probably won't make you feel any better, but just so you know the refineries profits have risen 200% since last October. Back to you in the studio."

for the lawn mowers which will soon be needed. Today it was 2.39 at the same place. And it isn't even April yet.

The Picture of Hype
Networks show exaggerated video of highest gas prices, hyping daily increases but glossing over the recent steady decline.

By Amy Menefee
and R. Warren Anderson
September 21, 2005

Inflation is a dirty word in business reporting – except when it’s the journalists themselves doing the inflating.

In the recent Katrina-driven gas scare, network news shows pumped up actual gas prices an average of 75 cents — higher than any state’s gas taxes. Prices shown on the screen were up to $3.25 higher than the national average for the day’s gas. On the other hand, when prices started dropping after Labor Day, the networks’ daily price patrols were scarce

18. I paid $2.71 today. I'm so glad I bought a Prius. Only $24.00 to fill me up these days.
I can drive 3-4 weeks on a fill up with the Prius. $24.00 a month for gas. I can handle that. Even if gas goes up to $4.00 a gallon, a fill up will be under $50.00...$44 and change in an 11.9 gallon tank. Best move I ever made was buying my Prius and I don't pollute Mother Earth.. That's the BEST part of owning a Prius....zero emissions.:)

20. Oil Barons message to the American People:
We own you, and the more your Democratic Congress investigates and BushCo's polls plummet, the more you will hurt.

The reason most of America went gladly along with the Iraq War, was because they were dreaming of and expecting cheaper gas than they were paying back then. They never expected to price to double.
