I am trying to understand why every Delegation" AFTER"New York" got a chance to VOTE and BE HEARD...
Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 06:27 PM by KoKo01
I live in NC...I've also lived in SC, NY, CONN, NJ and now North Carolina! Nancy Pelosi and Hillary CUT OFF everyone after New York (all those volunteers and workers whose final "place in the sun" is that they get to SPEAK OUT...at the Contrived Dem Convention.

That every state after New York (a state I love having spent much time living there) is LEFT OUT of their Party "Movers and Shakers" having a chance to put Obama "Over the Top" is so disgusting I have to look for blame and who can I point the finger at?

A PISSED OFF VOTER..who lived in all those states above who just can't believe that the Dem Party "CUT OFF" the ability of party activists who've worked so hard to have a chance at the Democratic Convention to have their State and National Candidates HEARD...GOT CUT OFF by PELOSI!

Please HELP ME HERE! My STATE MATTERS and so do all after the "N" word...NEW YORK!

12. NO! The "Roll Call of the States" is an instituion that's gone on since
Constitution. Yeah...it's been fucked with before and it's mostly for show...but so many delegates from states after NEW YORK throws it over to Obama to save Hillary" worked to pay their way to this Convention and they NEVER had a chance to pump the Dems running in the state to DEFEAT THE REPUGS. This is the chance "weak though it is" to SHOWCASE the STATES DEM EFFORTS! That Pelosi and Hillary (pushed by watching Fox News too long" allowed the "Rollcall of the States" to not go forward after New York was PANDERING...PANDERING...all to the CABLES and ESPECIALLY to the RW!

Our Dems don't care about their "Activists" they care about their "preening to the Media...where they bow down and take it again and again and again...even though their activists try to STOP THEM!

It's sick! It's no longer "Participatory Democracy" it's "Rule of the Thugs and Media" that drive our Dem Party... It's just disgusting.

38. Oh, bullshit
No participatory democracy? What the fuck happened this spring when we went to "polls" and casted "votes"? And please explain how not having the roll-call vote somehow is a slap in the face of activists. I seriously doubt any official delegate fits your definition of an activist.

Honestly, I think you just want to be angry and outraged all the time. You should learn to relax.

They could have raised objection to the proclamation if they were so inclined. Sometimes you put aside your own ego for the greater good. My state was not heard from either. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter to me.

14. the theater of all this was probably pre arranged. Why do you think California
with the huge block of votes passed?
Illinois, Obama's state, passed

then the vote was yielded back to ILL who Passed to NY.

Those delegation chairmen were all in the loop ..you can bet on it, probably live blogging to each other

Certainly not the first time this ever happened/

28. Of course it was all orchestrated
With the state of our Commentary style news now a days there's little margin for "error". Any sense that there's controversy among ourselves will be parsed to death and miscommunicated. I trust that dissent was heard in a respectful way in the back room and this was the general consensus on how to move ahead.

That was part of Hillary's "motion". What they won't get a chane to do is pontificate about the state flower, willing Little-League baseball team, favorite-son Farming Commissioner etc.

It's a little bit about political theater, getting the "rank and file" to feel fired up and ready to go out and "fight the good fight;" as a unified group.

Then, throw in a little concern about the news cycle and how it will play on TV/Cable; for the purpose of ratings.

This time, they got the added bonus of making the "mainstream" media look like a bunch of raving idiots with all their talk of party in-fighting and Obama-hating Clinton "supporters." As another poster said, they're left with "egg on their faces" after setting up for the big riot-filled stadium and got instead, a "unanimous" selection of the Democratic Presidential Candidate. Oopsie. Maybe they don't know what they're talking about. :D

The way it moved, as I read it on DU, it looked well choreographed. I have a feeling those states about whom you're concerned, may have been in on it, as well.

edit for my usual typo.

29. It's about Party Principles...and they could have still had Hillary make her statement
and NY throw him over the top but allow the rest of the states to have their moment in the spotlight to tout the Dems running and give a little bloviating about the "Great State of ____" so their Delegates feel appreciated.

We have got to get Liddy Dole out of NC and it would have been great for our NC Dems to have been able to make a statement..

They cut us off. And what about that big swing state Pennsylvania? How does there Delegation feel..with lots of votes? Plus the others after "New York" in the alphabet who had no chance to stand up.

Edited on Wed Aug-27-08 09:53 PM by Cerridwen
That's not a put down - honest!

This is the way the game is played. I do not like it either. Read that again. I do not like it either. It's how the game is played. I'm an idealist who has played the game. I know how to win the game. I can give you strategy and game plans and all that other crap that goes with it. That doesn't mean I like it. It means, intellectually, I know how it works.

You'll save your blood pressure, and many of your ideals, if you'll recognize it as well. The only alternative is to...I'm not allowed to say on this board.

You wanna play politics, you wanna be informed, read the history of both parties and the political process. It's rigged. Since before day 1.

What is the US, was founded by destroying peoples already here. It was founded on ideals not practiced by the founders. You think any of that has changed?

Yeah, this ain't no pep talk. Decide reality or ideology? Compartmentalize or don't. Your call. I'm too fucking cynical and may not be your best choice for information.

It sucks. It's what we've got. Decide now how you want to deal or if you want to deal.

edit: my usual typo

It was certainly a big FU to the talking heads who were trying to talk up a rift in the party, Hillary/her supporters were going to start a convention floor fight, etc. The only thing I wish they did was explicitly call those fools out on it...but hey you can't always get everything.

25. It was an effort to reunite the divided camps. New Mexico yielded
to Illinois to they could say it is Obama's home state, and Illinois yielded to New York so that Hillary could move Obama be selected by acclamation.

Imagine if you will the emotions the Hillary must have been feeling at that moment. Imagine the emotions of all who backed her these many months. But surely you can see the overall good that should come of this, despite the spokespersons of a few states who didn't get to say something to the effect of "The great state of (fill in here), home of the finest black-eyed pea (or fill in something else here) proudly casts (x votes) for (?)"

It was a feel good moment for most, but obviously not for all.

26. It would have mattered had they provided the same votes as were given
during the primaries and caucuses.

But when Arkansas, where Hillary got 70% of the votes goes 100% Obama, when other states that she carried give her only 10%, or so - the whole thing was a charade.

I really did not care about Duluth (MN) girls hockey team, or any other local "color."

And it is not as if it was carried by network news. Just a chance for politicians to remind their voters who they are.

It was that simple. And, quite frankly, a good show. Well orchestrated.

Hillary was a heroine last night and today by her question to cease the roll call and request an acclamation. Seconded and the ayes had it. It was all part of the script and everyone was aware of the plot. This was no mystery, we should all have seen this coming.

Guess what, we had to sit through boring speeches and go to dumb meetings. When it came time to vote on stuff, they came and told us how to vote. The only thing exciting about it was it was an election year and all the Democrats showed up along with all the MSM reporters. Humphrey is the only candidate I remember being there, although they all were there.(Senior moment) There was one candidate that was really cute, but to save my life I can't remember who he was. All I remember is the Secret Service guys that almost tackled me when I got to close to the cute guy.

“With eyes firmly fixed on the future, in the spirit of unity, with the goal of victory, with faith in our party and our country, let’s declare together, in one voice, right here, right now, that Barack Obama is our candidate and he will be our President. Madame Secretary, I move that the convention suspend the procedural rules and suspend the further conduct of the roll cal vote — all votes cast by the delegates will be counted — and I move Senator Barack Obama of Illinois be sleceted by this convetion by acclamation as the nominee of the democtaric party for president of the United States.”
