BBC: Halliburton plans move to Dubai
Halliburton, the oil services company formerly headed by US Vice-President Dick Cheney, is moving its headquarters from Texas to Dubai.

The company said it hoped the move to the United Arab Emirates would help it expand its business in the Middle East.

Halliburton won valuable contracts in Iraq following the US-led invasion of 2003, some of which were awarded without competitive bidding.

The company also has extensive operations in Saudi Arabia.

The oil giant will keep an office in Houston but the posts of chairman, president and chief executive will be based in Dubai.

Chief Executive Dave Lesar, speaking at a conference in Bahrain, confirmed that he would be relocating.

"As the CEO, I'm responsible for the global business of Halliburton in both hemispheres and I will continue to spend quite a bit of time in an airplane as I remain attentive to our customers, shareholders and employees around the world," he said.

"Yes, I will spend the majority of my time in Dubai."

4. Dubai and the ports
Dubai owns the security at our sea ports and wants more. Halliburton takes it's billions of dollars of profits and moves to Dubai. Halliburton does security and war contracting for the USA, but they will no longer be a US corporation. There is no extradition agreement for Dubai. Hmmm.

Tell me I'm wrong!

6. Seems to me Congress should look into this before anything is
done on the move. This company has screwed American for so long and now including our troops at Walter Reed not including how they charged and are charging us for their services in Iraq which was a no-bid contract.

Probably nothing can be done, but you would think there would at least be an investigation into it before they are allowed to skip the country.

5. Waxman has to move NOW to keep the records and other
relevant paperwork here so they can be subpoenaed... Not just Iraq paperwork, but also Katrina paperwork.

7. Hilarious
Anyone who doesn't think the world is under control of the free market dictatorship has not been paying attention. The corporations are now more powerful than governments.

The flagship company must survive. Carlyle Group would want it that way. :sarcasm:

10. I predicted this years ago.
Where else can you buy your own Private (artificial) Island which is still so close to land?

Here's more info on these Islands and Restricted access communities:

I sure wish these "Businessmen" would do something good for once and bring a few of these Island building boats over to the Louisiana Gulf Coast to work on rebuilding the almost totally lost Louisiana Coastal Barrier Islands, these could help a LOT in preventing the same catastrophe from happening again when the next Hurricane come.
