What is privatization of military services and Halliburton move to Dubai leading to?
Edited on Sun Mar-11-07 05:27 PM by blm
Bush1 and Dick Cheney started privatizing the US military back in 1991. That privatization of logistics has led to tragedies like the USS Cole bombing, the gouging for basic needs for our soldiers, the loss of billions of our tax dollars in Iraq, and the breakdown of services at Walter Reed.

Now we hear that Halliburton is moving their HQ from Houston to Dubai. Once there, the global corporatism will take hold firmer and stronger than at any other point we have witnessed in the past.

And the US will be left bankrupt and broken in too many areas to get it fixed in any expedient way.

No financial problems for the incredibly FLUSH global corporations who have been lining their pockets at our expense for the last twenty years, though.

Want to bet that Halliburton and Bechtel will have Blackwater and other private armies at their disposal while our military struggles to recoup?

We have GOT to stop Halliburton's move of all their documents and paperwork.

We need to MAKE Congress get involved the way we did with that Dubai ports deal.

The answers this nation needs are in those papers.

1. Absolutely are.
And the answers to the favors provided to Dubai for the port deal are pretty important.
Everything is Quid Pro Quo. Every single thing.
We need to email Keith and maybe even Chris Matthews on this.
This is an outrage.

who answer to no one and who can and will go to war purely for profit and purely because they can. This is all about returning to barbarism at it's most brutal.

Foreign Contractors

It may come as a surprise to people who've always assumed that America's defense is in the hands of Americans to learn that the list of top Pentagon contractors includes 95 companies, or in some cases government agencies, with headquarters in foreign countries. Three foreign governments made the list—Canada, Germany and Japan—as did the Italian Post, Telephone and Telegraph Service.

The German and Japanese contracts primarily pay for costs associated with U.S. bases located in those countries. The Canadian contracts are all through the Canadian Commercial Corp., a government-owned agency that handles contracts from Canadian exporters, and according to its own description "wraps the Canadian flag around their proposal, providing a government-backed guarantee of contract performance."

But most of the Pentagon's foreign suppliers are corporations—many with U.S. subsidiaries. The biggest supplier by far is the United Kingdom, whose companies earned more than $14 billion in defense contracts. Germany is second with $5.9 billion (including the contracts with the government itself). Next are the Netherlands, France, Canada, Denmark, Japan, Bermuda and South Korea—all with contracts exceeding $1 billion between 1998 and 2003.

Some of the companies are multinationals—like DaimlerChrysler or Royal Dutch Shell—that have a considerable U.S. presence. Others have U.S. subsidiaries, or, like Japan's Sumitomo Heavy Industries, they provide products and services used by U.S. forces overseas.

The list of foreign companies also includes Tyco International., which operates mainly in the United States, though the company is actually incorporated in Bermuda. (Bermuda is also home to the consulting firm Accenture). And the roster includes a contractor listed as "European Utility Companies" that refers not to a single firm, but a whole category of utilities suppliers based throughout Europe.

Here's the list of countries whose governments or corporations have received major Defense Department contracts over the past six years:

Country / Total Contracts / No of Contractors
England $14,467,558,907 19
Germany $5,875,778,292 11
Netherlands $2,898,934,824 7
France $2,793,612,113 7
Canada $2,207,393,181 1
Denmark $1,913,819,561 1

30. That's exactly why they're leaving.
They know that when the Dem's take over they will most likely be blacklisted by the government and all their previous government contracts will be investigated. They're moving so they can stay in business and not have their assets seized to pay for the money they've misappropriated. It's looking more and more like Bush/Cheney & company are preparing to flee the country.

So....what Dem administration does the BFEE really fear?

32. Most of the real fraud has occurred in the last 6 years.
Clinton probably exercised more oversight to begin with so there was less fraud to investigate. Besides Clinton wasn't spending anywhere near what these guys have spent in Iraq. I know what you're trying to say but the level of looting during Clinton's term was nowhere near what it has been during Bush's. Not enough to make them want to flee the country anyway. The war in Iraq has been a gravy train of graft.

the choice to look the other way while Poppy Bush continued on with his agenda WITHOUT the cumbersome aspect of being under constant investigation by a few Democrats in Congress and the Senate.

Thanks blm, I believe it is URGENT to get this story out there. Contact Chairman Waxman, your senators and spread thru your networks. Also, don't forget KO.

22. The United States is being slowly deconstructed - on purpose.
These men controlling our government - think they're incompetent? No way. They are systematically destroying the middle class and the defense of this country and it's so much bigger than who is or becomes our next president. Our National Guard and AD troops have been sent to Iraq and over the last 4 years have weakened and depleted not because of fuck ups, but because it was planned that way. It's the ultimate outsourcing because the elite power brokers of the world have no allegiance to any one country. The world is theirs and the rest of us are mere commodities.

The Army and Marine Corps are nearly in shambles and if the Air Force and Navy get used up in an Iran conflict, that leaves the USA with exactly spit for defense of this country. That is their plan I believe and the tranfer of all US assests into some Halliburton subsidiary.

35. The Navy will be a hard ship to sink.
What with 12 Aircraft carriers those alone can cause a tremendous ammount of pain since each one is the 8th largest airforce in the world. I don't think there is any country which can even think about taking down our navy, even a global concerted effort to that effect would have problems. But at the same time, taking down those aircraft carriers completly destroys the majority of our force projection capacity.
