We had a fire a few years ago in my town (No Cali) and they call in the planes at sunset, helicopters too. They just let the fire burn until morning.

However, I didn't notice that when I was watching the recent Malibu fire on the news. I saw helicopters flying at night dropping water. My area is mountainous and has lots of steep canyons and the heavy smoke makes flying over fires dangerous after sunset, it's never done.

even though they have an extra hour of daylight in the evening, they will have to start up one hour later due to later sunrise in the morning. It was a stupid remark on Fox's part without qualifying it in that sense.
