NBC Slammed For 'Anti-Semitic' TV Show
A popular US television series is coming under fire after a recent episode portrayed Israel in a harsh light and appeared to promote anti-Semitic stereotypes of Jews as disloyal citizens.

The plot line of the February 27 installment of Law and Order: Criminal Intent, a fictional police drama broadcast across America on NBC, centers on a journalist who is poisoned after his girlfriend uncovers a foul-up by Israeli intelligence.

The show depicts Israeli bulldozers destroying Palestinian schools, with at least one character referring to "Israeli brutality."

It also includes a Jewish police captain who agrees to cover up for Israel by shutting down a criminal investigation at the urging of the head of the local pro-Israel group.

In one scene, after Captain Danny Ross tells his officers to halt their investigation, Detective Mike Logan confronts him and asks, "Are you a Jew first and a cop second?"

2. Dare to criticize Israel...be labeled an anti-Semite.
Hard-core supporters of Israel are worse than bushbots when it comes to insisting on total, absolute obediance.

13. Sometimes, the label fits. Not always, but sometimes, it is true.

14. Yeah...SOMETIMES the label fits, but most of the time
it is indiscriminately branded onto ANYONE who dares to criticize even the most heinous, brutal actions of the supposedly secular gov't of modern Israel. Look...I'm no anti-semite. My wife and daughter are Jewish, and I consider myself a proud member of a Jewish household. When my wife couldn't I happily took our daughter to children's services Friday night. But we have severely limited our contacts at Temple because we could no longer stomach the weekly "Israel, Right or Wrong!" lectures. In college, some of my most liberal friends were Jews...we protested Reagan, apartheid, any hint of social injustice here or abroad...but they could turn a blind eye to even the most egregious brutalities when they were committed by Israelis. I remain particularly perplexed by women who support a govt that treats them like sub-humans in order to appease the ultra-orthodox fringe. Confused and frustrated the hell out of me.

5. Well it does have the echo of
the "untrustworthy dual citizen" variety of anti-semitism, so I can see how people might take offence to that line.

7. L&O-the "mother ship"
did an episode about Muslims earlier in the year that implied that it was not unusual for family members to behead other family members--lots of discussion about THAT one and the role of the imam, which was rather unrealistic. But I point it out to show that the series tends to be unafraid of offending anyone.

9. I don't doubt it
The L&O's that I've seen have many storylines about religion, and as you said they aren't terribly delicate in dealing with such things.

'Law & Order' actor urged to run for the White House

March 11, 2007

One Hollywood actor, Ronald Reagan, served as president for eight years. So why can't an actor who plays a district attorney on television?

Fred Thompson, who portrays Arthur Branch on NBC's police drama "Law & Order," is being urged to pursue the GOP nomination by several Tennessee Republicans.

Howard Baker, former Senate majority leader, has been trying to drum up support among senators.

Representative Zach Wamp has been talking with colleagues in the House. "We need that kind of star quality, but most importantly we need his strength and resolve," Wamp said.

Thompson, 64, the minority counsel in the Watergate investigation, was elected to the Senate in 1994 to fill the unexpired term of Vice President Al Gore. But he hasn't spoken a line about the White House.

8. That's Fred Dalton Thompson?
The same guy who played Admiral Painter in "Red October"?

I knew he was a Senator now, but I didn't realize he was still acting at the same time.

10. He was a senator from 94-03
No longer is one. The show has not been as good, IMHO, since he has been aboard.

11. He's been an ex-senator for several years now. I doubt he'll run

But someone else really could jump into this race and take off with this nomination. The top four contenders all have glaring Achilles heels problems.

12. On one of the morning shows or was it last weeks McLaughlin
group this was discussed (My PBS has blacked out the McLaughlin Group for fund raising last 2 Sundays, and they post the video like on Weds.) but his candidacy was discussed.
