Why do we have to attack the Alaskan Independence Party?
Aren't we a federation of states?
can States secede at will?
didn't we help Kosovo secede?
wouldn't the nomination of Palin undermine the influence of the Alaskan Independence Party?
who knows how many agents are infiltrated in the Alaskan Independence Party?

1. Probably because the federal government would lose a lot if Alaska became an independent nation.
For that matter, how much would the federal government lose if Texas and California followed soon thereafter? It is about the consolidation of power.

2. Interesting question. The AIP, while harmlessly minute in size, is a loony toon fringe.
Any fringe activity a candidate dapples with is fair game. If Obama had joined the Black Panthers in the 1980s or if Biden had been a Hell's Angel, it'd be brought up.

The AIP do seriously advocate splitting off from the union. Ideologically it would be like Abraham Lincoln running for a second term in 1864 on a unity ticket with Jefferson Davis. But it's not quite practically like that since the AIP isn't at war with the country and isn't a serious group. But it's still not the flaky sort of background you want a heartbeat away from the Oval Office.

Joining the AIP isn't treason. But joining them is a sign that you don't take your civic responsibilities as an American citizen very seriously.

6. It seems unpatriotic to be in a group advocating for secession from the United States
That's just my personal opinion. I say let them secede then we should send our military to occupy their land and take their oil.

7. Because if Sarah Palin..
wants Alaska to secede, why would she want to be VP of the "United" States? Maybe Alaska will secede right after Iraq.

8. dummy
NO. US states may not secede. The Civil War determined that (courts used the war as part of their justification in denying secession attempts- a la Conc (sp?) Republic). Trying to secede is treasonous, and should be punished harshly.
