http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=233386The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has urged Iran to accept direct bilateral talks or international mediation over three islands in the strategic Gulf that Iran had 'occupied' on the eve of UAE's independence in 1971.
In his address to the Federal National Council here Saturday, President Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed also declared that 'whatever the outcome, the UAE will abide by it.'
The state-run Emirates News Agency WAM quoted him as saying that it was important to resolve disputes peacefully, and that this approach was a pillar of UAE's foreign policy, as laid down by the country's founding father Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan.
'I reiterate our earlier call upon our neighbour - Iran- to accept direct talks with us or refer the issue to the international Court of Justice. We stand ready to accept the verdict of the international court regardless of its outcome.'
