How some on the right I know here in Ohio see the left:
I forgot how many fundies I knew and was related to, I feel like an island in a sea of insanity out here....

They have been talking a lot lately and they love Palin....

At any rate, here is why they don't like the left:

1. They see us as gun grabbers.
2. Want to weaken defense budget and make cuts, and don't 'support the troops'
3. Want to raise your taxes and take defense cuts and give them to social programs
4. See us as wanting to get rid of homeschooling and limiting other freedoms (nanny state stuff)
5. Abortion has not been brought up here, but I know how they feel about it from previous conversations.
6. Socialized medicine ('hell, we will be as bad as canada where you have to wait forever to be seen', etc) - someone actually said that yesterday...jeebus help us.
7. They hate religious folks (yeah, like MLK was anti-religion....)
8. Gay marriage and pushing 'gay agenda' in school while kicking faith/prayer out of school (and if you tell them to home school they will tell you see #4)
9. we want bigger government at federal level.

Now, just to give a further example one of my siblings the other day printed out something about cell phone numbers being given to sales people and you have to register with the no call list by X date. That has been debunked by the FTC way back in the day - but anything someone sends most these people I know in email they just believe and talk about it (and I have emailed them back many times with snopes references).

In other words, they hear and believe like in church without ever trying to find the truth - and that there is SOME truth to some of the issues they have it does not make everything true (we do want social medicine, etc).

1. I also want to cut the Defense budget and spread some of the money toward social programs
They are not wrong there. We spend more on (Defense), I would say Offense, than the next ten largest countries put together. The USA is not in danger of being attacked and overrun. Ain't gunna happen yet we are in danger of being in ill health as a people and nation. We are in danger of becoming very much like a third world country in corruption and inequality of wealth. We are in danger of more bridges collapsing and highways falling into irrepair. We are in danger of our children being replaced in world markets because of lack of proper education and health care.

2. Here's how I, a flaming liberal, see them:
1. They love their guns so much even hearing about children dying in household gun accidents has no effect on them.

2. They are willing to put themselves or their children in the line of fire to fight oil wars for old, rich, white men who could care less about them.

3. Somehow believe that large corporations are better at running things than the government could possibly be despite that fact that so many things left to "the market" turn out so badly (mortgage crisis and healthcare).

4. Want to make absolutely certain their children never surpass them in knowledge or education and would rather have their kids be uneducated than exposed to, well, liberals like me. Secretly, they are afraid if their kids' eyes are opened, they will realize how ignorant their parents are and lose all respect for them.

5. Have no problem with passing laws that could put women's lives in danger, including their own daughters, sisters, and wives. (I guess it means the men are also willing to be single dads in the case that their wives die in childbirth or due to pregnancy complications that could have been solved by a procedure that has been outlawed. They probably loved "The Courtship of Eddie's Father")

6. Just wait until someone they love gets cancer and has to put a jar with their picture on it at cash registers in convenience stores to collect coins to pay for treatment.

7. Their religion keeps them in the dark ages.

8. They are secretly gay themselves.

9. They don't want big gov't. and are perfectly content being screwed over by rich white men, oil companies, and other corporations. They also enjoy paying more state and local taxes as funding from the federal gov't. gets cut off due to their "tax cuts".

I am not so sure

something is happening, and it isn't in their favor

I would like to point out in 2006 Ohio started shifting toward Democrats

we are going to win, especially in Ohio, they have been devasted by the mccain/bush policies

5. The folks I know are, they blame dems for everything
it is like talking to rush limpballs everyday in the hood here. Repugs do no wrong, dems do no right - they think palin is the best thing since raygun, 'a real mom', etc and so on.

But yes - I think Ohio will go dem this year :)

4. I want to cut the obscene "War off-Budget" and spend to money on Health Care Socialize the Health
bill and leave the health care in private hands.

On the other points

1. I own several guns and it was the BusHILTER crowd who grabbed the guns in New Orleans; Remember?
2. I want to cut the gravy train in the DOD budget off and make cuts on the "Star wars insanity, it was the Democrats who want to 'support the troops' by raising their pay giving them benefits and limiting their deployments The GOP filibustered and blocked all these.
3. Want to raise your taxes (On the rich and the parasitic corporations)
and take defense cuts and give them to social programs
4. IF you can home school your child and give them a quality education more power to you.
5. Abortion should be legal safe and rare.
6. Socialized medical costs. How long will you wait to see a doctor if you have no insurance?
7. I do not care for fundamentalist religious folks who try to force their religious beliefs into my government.
8. Gay marriage and pushing 'gay agenda' in school while kicking faith/prayer out of school see #7.
9. we want government at federal level to work for the benefit of the people not the parasitic corporations, aWoL has increased Federal spending bureaucracy and debt more than every previous administration, wasn't he a a fundie "conservative"?/

8. On guns...

There is a vocal gun-hating minority within this party that likes to portray itself as representing the average Dem. They don't.

The DLC seems to like shooting the party in the foot over the gun issue, though.

9. If these people watch Fox every day and listen to Rush every day..fuck em. They are lost.
There's no way to drill through the walls of ignorance and lies. Fuck em. When their jobs are gone, when their health insurance becomes too expensive, when they default on their mortgage, when they declare bankruptcy, when their sons and daughters are drafted to fight in Iran, maybe, just maybe, they'll start asking questions.
