Palingate: I thought the MSM learned their "free ride" lesson with W

I seem to remember, oh, just a few months ago, how the media was falling over themselves, apologizing for "not being more diligent" and "not doing our jobs as reporters" when they failed en masse to question the veracity of bush, Powell and the rest of the peanut gallery in their run-up to the Iraq war. Seems there was a great wailing and gnashing of teeth by the MSM on how they had learned their lesson, and that going forward, they would take their Fourth Estate responsibilities seriously.

Yet, today, they seem to be buying into the McCain/RW meme that Karl R Palin's life, nutty religious views, dis-functional family and alleged illegal actions are somehow off limits.

Why is that?
