Apart from the legal and tax ramifications of the Halliburton move...

About one year back, I bumped into an American in one of my favorite haunts in the UAE-- a seller in the Gold Souq of Sharjah who sells antique and ancient jewelry (it's a hobby what can I say). At that time, I bumped into one of the founders of Halliburton (and former CEO) and had a long and good conversation. He was an older and actually very nice guy. He was there for the international Arabian horse competition.

To make a long story short, he may have had a great deal of influence on the move! Movers and shakers don't just piddle around unless they are thinking about things...

1. The only similar story I have

is when I was working late on our Iraq contract (w/another moderately known co) and some Halliburton guys showed up. Late. And sneakily. The remaining management in the building excitedly met with them, including the VP. Definite backroom-deal vibes. I got the VP to sign some releases for me the next morning and said offhandedly, "man, those guys are dirty, you don't want anything to do with them," and forwarded some juicy articles about their contract audits. We never did a deal with them. Thankfully. I hope I had some influence on that, but, maybe they were out of our scope, too.
