First post and a question! Or three
Great to be here...and Hi :hi:
So just got my son to naps, and I was reading a post on Portland Indy, http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2007/01/352788.shtml
Guess I was hoping for you all to translate a bit...towards the bottom of his post he makes some general comments I guess most would agree with, but the rest? (I didn't follow any of his links) This is the first I have read about boycotting peace rallies to implement peace?
Is he just wanting to ditch the big name peace groups and have all of America lay down in the street to stop commerce? Or something like that?
Can you help me find my keys? Do people really watch Deal....or no Deal? Am I the only stay at home dad here? Is this where I put the sarcasm button thing? Did I post this in the wrong section?

Sorry, just trying to get the serious and the not so serious stuff all packed in to one big fun filled first post! You guy's let us new people in and look what happens....we go crazy!

Whew, that felt alright. I'm done. Thanks.

2. I don't understand what his issue is.
If he doesn't want to rally for peace, that's his right, but it seems really counterproductive to badmouth the rest of us. Peace marches are one way to register our disapproval - all other ways are also welcome.

4. Hi ptvet, and welcome aboard..........
The poster on the Portland Indy site sounds like a troll to me. "Hijacking the Ghandian movement"? OK, so us hippie libs from the 60's and 70's never organized, right? It was just spontaneous... uhm hmmmmmmm - no flyers, no posters in the major cities and on campus.... Boycott peace rallies to implement HIS/HER idea of a Ghandian movement, maybe, but I think the poster is just nuts!

Can't help you with your keys, I'm still trying to find Jesus. I think I left him under the couch.

There are a few stay-home dad's on DU, and a lot of other dads who envy you the chance. You'll have to tell us about the kid(s)! And I haven't a clue about Deal or No Deal - my TV is off 98% of the time.

If the caliber of our recent newbies is what we oldsters at DU can expect - WOW! I, for one, am certainly glad you're with us :hi:

Main thing is to stick to your (Democratic) principals and have fun :P

5. Is that you in the little picture, NOD?

6. Yep, me and Raven1, my Roadie -
in the parking area for the Matanuska Glacier last year. The Roady was overloaded, but it usually is when I'm tent camping!

Yeah, tell the prez he's a complete asshole and should have resigned in 2000!!

Seriously, I know you'll represent all of us up here who want the war to end (including many, many of our military) - so do what you do best, be Blue!! And, of course, have fun. We'll be expecting reports and photos!

10. Thanks NOD
Like Blue in Ak said, I guess I wasn't all that clear what his issue was...
I confess to a bit too much TV, but a good bit of it is Sesame Street and such!

7. Great theory on Ghandi's peace movement, but I feel the editorial is a ruse.
At least protests are some way of fighting, getting the word out in the public. Boycotting the protests is counter-productive.

Your keys are on the pegs by your back door.

Yes, and they watch American Idol, but not C-Span.

Probably not, I do believe there are several stay-at-home dads here.

Yes, many people don't get sarcasm.

I don't think it's the wrong section, but I'm sure you will be told it is.

Congratulations on getting a working link on your first try!

WELCOME TO DU!

9. My husband was a stay at home dad for twenty years.
Glad to see the younger generation is following in our footsteps. Good luck Dad and Welcome.

What the author, Lloyd Hart, of the post is getting at is not real clear. I think he is just a disgruntled activist who doesn't understand why no one is listening to him. He seems to like neither the Democratic or repuke parties, and seems to hate Arabs too.

Here is a link for more of his crap: http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2006/12/16/18338146.php

I don't understand what he is getting at and I don't think he does either.

12. Hi and welcome to DU, Ptvet!
Think the guy is a little over-the-top and I didn't understand his logic. I went to DC in Sept. 2005 and just can't get there this time. (I also went for another protest march back in 196? .. the big one).

I don't even know what Deal or no Deal is. And your keys are just where you left them.

13. Welcome...and there are always a few at protests
who want to leave the designated/permitted routes and cause a police confrontation. I think he is arguing that the organizers are wrong for fighting against this.

I've been to almost every large SF Bay Area protest since this maladministration. There are always those who dislike the organizers and those who are anarchists and those in between. I went to Berkely in the late 70's and we had the same problems and I heard the same arguments from 60's activists. Ignore them and do what you think it correct. I personally think the media needs to see a large turnout Saturday to validate that most Americans are against this war. We'll see.

14. Hi, ptvet! Welcome to DU!
I'm not sure what the writer's issue is.

Your keys are in the last place you will look for them.

No, people don't really watch Deal or No Deal. But my favorite so far on American Idol is that guy Sundance from the Memphis auditions.

Couldn't tell you about the stay at home dads...I'm an unemployed woman.

It is where you'd put the sarcasm thingy, if you're being sarcastic, that is!

Looks like the right section to me! Of course, I've been here for years, and have only started two or three threads in that time...if it's not, the mods will move it.

Love your first post :hi:

15. Welcome to DU!
As far as the Indymedia post, sounds like a typical disgruntled more-liberal-than-thou fringe type. You can find every flavor of lunacy on the internets. ;)

16. Thanks for the welcome....
And I did find the keys. Not 15min after I post and my boy is up and ready to go! Go and go...
Thanks also for the insight on the Portland Indy post, guess I wasn't as confused as I think I is or am.
