was Hartmann's last caller a troll?
He said, "I am a progressive, but I'm not like most progressives because I wish there were fewer abortions". How many of you DUers wish there were MORE abortions in the US?

1. I don't think progressives wish there were more abortions in the U.S
I think progressives want to keep abortions legal but at the same time find ways to educate people to take precautions(like practing safe sex) so this procedure dosen't occur.

2. It's not a dichotomy
He could have meant "fewer" abortions than we now have. That doesn't imply that some progressives want more abortions, but that some progressives are happy with the current abortion rate.

I doubt he's alone in his opinion. Many progressives--myself included--support a woman's right to choose, but wish that the choice of abortion was one that was exercised less frequently than it currently is.

PS I'm sort of disappointed that this is my 1000th post.

10. The problem I see with the "use of birth control will result in fewer abortions"
meme is that the RRR (Radical Religious Right) believes that most birth control IS abortion. They believe that each egg should be fertilized, and that each fertilized egg should implant on the uterine wall. Many prominent religious right leaders, including Richard Land and Albert Mohler of the Southern Baptist Convention, believe that 'life' begins at 'conception,' and the birth control pill, for example, may preclude implantation. Therefore, use of the Pill equals use of an abortion procedure.

So, I always begin with, "Exactly what do you mean by abortion?"

Just saying.

3. Well, as a rule of thumb when someone begins with
"I'm a progressive" red flags go up for me.

5. This is nearly a natural law.
Hartmann understands this as he has stated such. He will, however, often move forward and debate the points usually, unless the troll is one of those who just wants to yell. The guy is a born debater.

7. OR - Do you have a sense of how many stations BIG ED managed to freak out
so much that they shifted from Franken to Schultz instead of from Franken to Thom?

I can't get Air America to stream from their main website, so I started looking for AAR streams around the country I could stream to hear Sam Seder and I could not find even one (though I did not look at them all) -- everyone is playing Stephanie Miller. While I was looking for Sam I was also checking out how many stations were playing Ed instead of Thom and it is TOO MANY... :(

9. Use this site for finding streaming sources for shows -
http://ltradio.blogspot.com/

Multiple sources for Sam Seder, or just about any other liberal talk show you want to listen to!

4. Hell yeah, fire up the weed wacker and the vacuum cleaner...yee haw!!!
We need 'em for cattle feed and stem cell research (I'll trot one of these out :sarcasm: in case someone doesn't take my real point).

I wasn't listening, but based solely on the quote you provided, I am inclined to vote "Mega Troll."

8. I would like to see fewer abortions too.
Edited on Mon Mar-12-07 12:50 PM by AX10
By means of educating the public on methods of birth control such as condoms and "the pill". They are the best way to prevent any unwanted pregnancies.
With that said, Roe v. Wade should NOT be overturned. Also, Planned Parenthood helps those who do not want the responsibility of a child find suitable homes for those children.

11. AND, as I said above,
the Religous Right members believe that the Pill is the equivalent of abortion. So, we have to establish what we are talking about. When someone is objecting to abortion in front of me, I always start with, "Exactly what constitutes 'abortion' to you?"

15. There's nothing religious about the "Religious Right"
In addition to abortion, they want to ban all sex ed (except for "abstinence only" bullshit), all forms of birth control, and have punitive punishments for people who don't follow their dogmatic requirements (like "ending welfare as we know it") - then they're shocked, SHOCKED! when unwed pregnancies & abortions actually increase & stumble all over themselves to blame someone else.

17. He's ignorant. He believes the myth that "pro-choice" means "as many abortions as possible"
He should believe it because the Democratic Party is too stupid to keep saying over and over again that the Republicans are the ones who want more abortions because they are the ones making money (stock) when abortions are performed.

But no, the Democrats wouldn't dare "expose" what the Republicans are doing, and that's exactly why the Republicans are still considered "viable" by the public.

Republicans want more abortions.
Just look at Bill Frist who became a billionaire in part because of abortions.
