I'm listening to Randi's stand-in (don't know his name but so far, so good) he's got some caller singing the praises of Ron Paul. I'm well aware of libertarian Ron Paul and have never been impressed with him. Yeah, he's anti-war and all but I still think he's full of crap. Just thought I'd bring it up. Feel free to tell me what's so great about him if you think I'm off the mark. :-)

1. If the republic party was full of Ron Pauls
we'd be better off than we are now. For a Repug, he's not too bad.

8. Like all Libertarians
he makes a great deal of sense on social issues but sucks the big green weenie on economic and political issues.

He'll please a lot of rank and file GOPs and alienate the bible bangers. He's not going too far.

2. I like how much he discusses the economy in terms of a house of
cards with respect to the federal deficit, the deficit of the federal budget, and the trade imbalance and how this country has to finance its debt by trying to convince other countries to buy $2 billion-plus worth of our treasury bonds each day to just pay the interest on the debt. He's the only one who is yelling for people to wake up.

6. Funny how we used the same line
I didn't see your post until after I posted.

I'd be tempted to vote for him just for this reason alone.

3. not voting for a Repub, but he's been more honest than Hillary
and more than a handful of Dems on the war.

As for votin', that's where it begins and ends for me.

4. He actually says that the economy is a house of cards
Unlike the mealy-mouthed McCain, Paul actually practices straight talk. His speeches on our current economic situation are refreshing in their candor. I sure don't agree with everything that he says, but I definitely respect him. He's one of the few in Congress with the guts to not mince words.

5. Take it from one of his constituents from CD-14
He's a certified nut. Does NOTHING for the district and was totally ignored by the Republican leadership when they had the majority. In fact he frequently votes against the interests of his constituents when his ideology gets in the way. Example: He was against gov't funding for medical research despite the fact that UTMB-Galveston (a medical school doing research) is in his district.

9. I know your pain
Our congressman (Garrett) leans Libertarian and often votes against the interests of his constituents and even against common sense. You have to admire the stick-to-it-ness of a Libertarian. Garrett is adored in the more rural parts of our heavily gerrymanded district. He can likely be in Congress as long as he wants.

7. I'm going to put a pubie choice on you ...
If you aren't for DK or Ron Paul then you're for the war. If one is absolutely anti-war, what other choices are there?

Who love Paul on the War and are utterly clueless as to the rest of his positions.

11. His position on the war is good
and I think he is an honest person..which is more than I can say for most of them..but that is where my praise stops. On any fundemental issue he is far to the right of most Republicans.

14. He's honest in that he has no fear of ridicule
He says what he wants to without any fear of not being taken seriously.

"On any fundemental issue he is far to the right of most Republicans"

And he's a racist bastard to boot.

12. Paul serves the right the way Kucinich serves us
He keeps issues that might otherwise be forgotten in the mix for the primaries ... I wouldn't vote for him, either, but it's a good contrast to see Paul's ideas next to McCain's and Rudy's and Sam Brownback's ... The lone voice of (relative) sanity among a bunch of loons.

And Paul does this without being a genuine "threat" to the Dems (because there's not a snowball's chance in he** that he'll get the Repug nomination).

15. Michael Jackson and Ron Paul
hell, Michael Jackson is a great singer, but it doesn't make him worthy to be a day care worker.

As with Ron Paul, his stance on the war is right, but it sure doesnt make him worthy to be president.

And by the way, he is a libertarian. Pure libertarian who couldnt get elected till he called himself a Republican.

Dressing like Michael jackson.

16. Even IF he were to win
he would still have to deal with the entrenched interests in the congress.

His effectiveness would be very limited, but it might be interesting as a change in the debate. Same for Dennis K.

17. I wouldn't vote for him either, but I admire him in this one respect:
I've remarked to my spouse on more than one occasion that I can't believe that the Bush** cabal hasn't "accidented" him for his outspoken position (even before) on Iraq. He's repeatedly skewered them and each and every point that they've tried to make about the 'reasons' to invade Iraq.

I'll admit that I watched him on c-span this morning, and he was still in skewering mode regarding Iraq, his comments abut inflation were a little unsettling, and if someone would enlighten me further, I would greatly appreciate it.

Oh, yeah, I'm REALLY glad that he wasn't my OB/GYN or OB for that matter! :hi:

18. The more money you print
the less it's all worth. Goods don't go up in price, currency goes down in value.

We now have Bernanke in charge of the Federal Reserve, who is well know for saying the Federal Reserve has a secret weapon, the printing press.

Combine that with the Fed no longer reporting the number of dollars in circulation (M-3)and the Treasury Bonds don't look like such a great investment for anyone, including China and others who funds our wars and most every thing else for that matter.

More than a little scary.

20. Actually I'm glad that someone else found it unsettling, too.
I've read many unsettling posts on DU about the M-3 and other subjects, but to have someone under the (R) veil stating unsettling things...well you'd think that the republics would pay attention!

Jeeze, the typos in the post that you responded to!

19. Paul ...Congress should set example.
Ron Paul proposed that Congressmen that wanted to give gold medals to Reagan, Pope John Paul and Rosa Parks should be required to pay a sigificant amount for them out of their own pocket.

I actually kind of like that attitude where elected officials should set the example.
