McCain to introduce third Iraq resolution
McCain to introduce third Iraq resolution

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, said Wednesday he will introduce his own Senate resolution on Iraq that calls for a series of benchmarks and intensified congressional oversight.

McCain's resolution will be the third Senate resolution that deals with the president's call for a troop increase in Iraq.

McCain would not speculate to reporters on how many Democrats might support the resolution.

What's the matter John? Don't like the way your polls are going? It's never too late to pander to a different group!

1. Mr. Maverick genuflects to the polls.
McCain, more and more, looks like toast.

image better than this.

He's still more or less a leading candidate for the presidency, and it seems as if his staff would control the public message better than they've been doing these last several months or so.

7. Sorry. I meant that McCain had awoken from hibernation, as witnessed at
the SOTU speech. He's been pretty stubborn with his ideas in the past, and he finally woke up and confronted reality, as you said, by finally deciphering the polls.

10. Hi, shain. You're right -- the polls are driving him now and not
principle. Which puts him in a really bad place, since he won votes in the 2000 New Hampshire primary by being a lot more spontaneous and maverick than Dubya. And he crushed Bush in that one. Since then, though, he's really folded up shop and headed for the hills.

He could still prove me dead wrong, I know. For all I know, his resolution will echo the national mood. But I think his handlers need to watch out that he doesn't become a stuffed souvenir of the Bush war years. If he's going to get elected, he can't become a more-war candidate.

5. So congress should micro manage Bush's fuck-up war? I don't think
...that is at all feasible. It has become a civil war and we don't need congress totally preoccupied with anything like that. They need to focus on problems right here in the USA, so get the troops out asap and no further buildup.

6. The next time * & Cheney issue statements, McCain will be upping
the number of troops to be sent and calling for a draft to supply them.

He might get Lieberman's support. McCain SUPPORTS the surge. Anything else he puts in a resolution is just smoke and mirrors.
