5. Heck! why don't all American citizens get royalty payments from drilling on federal public land?
In the dim recesses of my mind I seem to recall a major FU of the Clinton administration was not renewing royalty payments paid to the federal government. I will have to take a teensy bit of time and research that.

8. They should have thought to set up a Permanent Fund
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 05:14 PM by Blue_In_AK
when their resources first started being exploited. The Alaska Permanent Fund dividend has nothing to do with Sarah Palin, by the way. The extra $1200 this year came out of various plans put forward by Gov. Palin and the legislature to help rural Alaskans especially cope with outlandish energy costs (for this one year only) that are many times what people in the Lower 48 pay. The final decision was to give the bonus to everyone who already had filed for a permanent fund check for ease of administration. Sarah's Republican enemies here (of which she has many) call her a "socialist."

9. Texas gets production payments,
also property taxes assessed on oil and gas reserves. The income is used for general expenses and offsets Texans' potential tax burden.

Texans pay no state income tax-- but do not get money back from the state as in Alaska.

10. thanks, I knew we had a benefit in there somewhere, it is just more subtle
than a check to every individual

Is is Wisconsin that offsets property taxes with lottery profits and gives refunds back to homeowners, or am I mixing that up with another state?

11. Because those states have chosen to have the government spend that money instead
