"Shark rips flesh from surfing lawyer's arm": video. WTF !?
Edited on Mon Mar-12-07 06:35 PM by sammythecat
This was a headline on CNN's website. Who the hell writes this crap? If I didn't know he was already dead, I'd think it was P.T. Barnum. "Rips flesh"! "Surfing lawyer"!

Do we no longer have any sort of serious, big-time news organization left at all?
There is no article. You have to watch a 3 minute video to find out a guy went to the ocean and got bitten by a shark.

If I was there and called 911 should I have said, "There's a lawyer in the water and sharks are ripping his flesh!"?
Why is this a headline? Are we to now fear that sharks are lined up three deep waiting for any of us, even lawyers!, to enter the water?

A well known journalist, I can't remember his name, once said, "The news shouldn't be solemn, but it should be serious". Oh, if only it was.

P.S. This journalist/newsguy wrote a couple books on speaking and English usage. He once hosted SNL and I think he hosted one of the Sunday morning news shows for a while. If anyone can remind me of his name, I'd really appreciate it. I's bugging me that I can't remember the guy's name.

7. At first I misread your reply
Sorry for my own snarky response.

As far as I know the lawyer had lacerations, so the shark probably didn't swallow enough to make him sick and should be okay. :)

9. Sharkwater movie trailer:
http://www.sharkwater.com">http://www.sharkwater.com
In an effort to protect sharks, Stewart teams up with renegade conservationist Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Their unbelievable adventure together starts with a battle between the Sea Shepherd and shark poachers in Guatemala, resulting in pirate boat rammings, gunboat chases, mafia espionage, corrupt court systems and attempted murder charges, forcing them to flee for their lives.

Through it all, Stewart discovers these magnificent creatures have gone from predator to prey, and how despite surviving the earth's history of mass extinctions, they could easily be wiped out within a few years due to human greed.

13. You know, now that I've read some replies
I think I missed the humor in the original headline.

I see it now. I've never had much to do with lawyers but, if I did, I think I'd see this as many of you see it. A greedy lawyer getting his hand bitten by a fellow shark.

Sometimes it takes a while for me to see the obvious.
