3. The argument is that we can revitalize our progressive foundation...

... by effectively communicating not so much specific issues as the values that underlie the issues. Our values are where otherwise seemingly disarrayed progressives are very much in harmony. Lakoff talks about a lot of points surrounding this and he also discusses taking control of that which we can control. It's a very pragmatic and realistic view and, as it turns out, a very hopeful approach, as well.
