All Things Considered, March 12, 2007 · The most optimistic note in Zbigniew Brzezinski's book about current U.S. foreign policy is the title, Second Chance.

Washington has squandered its first chance at global leadership, says Brzezinski, who was national security adviser under President Jimmy Carter.

In his book, Brzezinski assesses the foreign policies of the three most recent U.S. presidents — the only three leaders who have led the country after the Cold War and Washington's Soviet rival imploded.

Brzezinski tells Robert Siegel that George H.W. Bush merits a B, while Bill Clinton receives a C and the current president, George W. Bush, an F.

1. Oh, I dunno. I'd give him an A
If I set out to fold, spindle or mutilate the law, to use government money to feather my nest and the nests of my cronies, and to do this with my foreign policy...foreign policy that bleeds over into domestic policy..and I accomplish these things, then I warrant an A

Now, if you judge my actions by a reasonable standard of expectations of a President, then I deserve an F.

However, nothing Bush has done or will do can be judged against reasonable expectations of a President.

Bush never intended to serve America...Bush always intended for America to serve him.

3. There's nothing lower than F?
What a shame, because Bush certainly pushes the envelope of a F grade. Perhaps a new category should be added. Catastrophic, perhaps?

5. Works for me
and there should forever be an * next to his name because he wasn't truly elected as President in 2000. The Supreme Court appointed pResident, where the Supreme Court was stacked with his father's cronies.

Yep, from now on in history books he should be known as.....George W. Bush* - WPE

6. Yeah, let's listen to him
Mr. Grand Chessboard. He wants empire as much, if not more, than most. He just wants to put a nice face on it. He wants it managed better. He wants to do empire intellectually. It's all still about molding everyone into the same way of being, but at least he gave W and F. Hooray.
