I have been pleased with the early change to daylight savings time

Gets light about the time I get up and stays light outside until nearly 7:00 PM. Its seems like a really good idea so far.

Perhaps it hasn't been so good for others?

6. Helps for the night, but still hurts for the morning

I live by a shelter and homeless encampment. Nothing against homeless people, except the fact that they're one million times more likely to commit a crime than people with homes, which is why my little area in Seattle's Queen Anne has as much violent crime, car prowls and burglaries as downtown. And, the crazy ones will put a curse on you and harrass you, while walking to your car. I was finally relieved that it was light when I left the house with my 5-year-old. And guess what? It's pitch f-ing black, again.

But, as I understand it -- only for a couple of weeks. The days start to get longer, fast now. So, I'll hold on...

9. I like it

but I've thought for some time now that we should leave it like this for good. I much prefer it staying light later in the day. I hate leaving work at 4:30 in the afternoon with it being pitch black out during the entire month of January.

I don't really see the sense in switching back and forth anymore and the older I get the harder it is to get used to this springing forward. I know it's just a lousy hour but for some, probably psychosomatic, reason I really drag my ass until Wednesday following the switch.

Somehow I think that this is messing with Mother Nature, never a good thing(I know, I know, time is a human construct anyway, this is just my gut feeling). In terms of practical matters, it sucks for the farmer, since we are now shorted an hour of cool, early morning time, instead exchanging it for an extra hour of hot dayligt in the evening.

And frankly I don't see how it is of any use vis-a-vis energy savings. We're still left with the same amount of sunlight. In fact that extra hour in the evening means that it gets cooler, later:shrug:

Frankly, this is for the urbanites. This way, they get an extra hour of daylight after they get off work. Then they can work, play, etc. an extra hour. Me, I hate the damn shit.

21. I alwyays found the good for farmers explanation

kind of bogus. Growing up on the farm we worked when it was light out and we worked in the dark. If we had to do something in the light we made sure the sun was up. I didn't look at a clock to tell me it was dark or light out.

One thing I always really liked about farming is the lack of a timeclock, I got up in the morning and went to work after breakfast. Sometimes it was 7:00 AM but the next day it could be 8:30.

25. In terms of energy use, it actually should be reversed

Longer hours of sun in the winter and shorter hours in the summer.... More sun when it is colder and less sun when it is hotter.... Less electricity to use...

26. Physically, it makes me feel funny. I hate the jet-lag feeling.

I have a strong internal clock. I never wear a watch and can tell the time, even while lying on a beach in Mexico, to the nearest 5 minutes.

This just pulls the rug out from under me for a few days and I don't like it.
