Pace Refuses to Apologize --->>>
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 10:47 AM by Stephanie

He's quite the coward, hiding behind his aides.

Aides: Pace won't apologize for gay remark

WASHINGTON - Senior aides to the chairman of the military Joint Chiefs of Staff said Tuesday that Marine Gen. Peter Pace won't apologize for calling homosexuality immoral — an opinion that gay advocacy groups deplored.

In a newspaper interview Monday, Pace had likened homosexual acts to adultery and said the military should not condone it by allowing gays to serve openly in the armed forces.

Pace's senior staff members said Tuesday that the general was expressing his personal opinion and had no intention of apologizing. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to speak on the record.

8. I don't really care if he apologizes for his dumbass opinions.
I do want him to apologize for using his position as a government employee (meaning an employee of the people of the United States) to insult large numbers of people based on his own prejudices.

But more than that, I want his reassurances that his dumbass views won't affect his ability to do his job. It isn't his job to make pronouncements on the morality of the people who serve, it is his job to analyze, manage, advice, and in all other ways make decisions about the effectiveness of the US military in its specific endeavors. Do his personal opinions hinder his ability to make rational decisions? Will his views cause him to judge people not on their military preparedness, but on some subjective standard his upbringing has programmed into him? If he can't discern the inappropriateness of comments such as "homosexuality is immoral" to his position and his job, then he should become a preacher and retire from service to our country. We deserve the best, and it isn't clear he is willing to give us that, either personally, or in terms of the personnel he wants to allow in the military. At its heart, Don't Ask Don't Tell is a declaration that a person's sexuality is none of the military's business. The fact that General Pace makes it his business is disturbing in terms of his objectivity to perform his job.

He has the right to be as disgusting personally as he wants, he doesn't have the right to drag down our entire military by being so.

9. He has to be afraid of homosexuality
because he is probably suppressing those feelings himself. That is always the way it happens.

Those who are tolerant are merely indicating that they have nothing to fear in accepting those that are different from them.

12. Actually, some homophobic bigots are simply homophobic bigots
Do we say that racist bigots are secretly African-American, and that's why they don't like black people. Obviously that would be absurd. It is equally absurd to assume that everyone who is homophobic is secretly gay, or fears that they might be gay. Lots of them are just straight bigots.

13. Testing
There were some tests performed, and it was found that those who were most homophobic were those that were aroused with homosexual images. I did not extend the results of those tests to those who were racist. I have found that intolerance of other races usually stems from a sense of superiority - that has to be bolstered by feelings towards the "other".
