ARE WE FAILING OUR WOUNDED?

http://www.montelshow.com/show/?showID=today

Todays Guests:

Tonia: The spokeswoman for “Operation Homefront,”
an organization that supports military families and wounded service members

Kenny: Tonia’s husband who was injured in war

Stefanie: A former captain in the US Army, whose husband, Captain Michael Pelkey,
committed suicide after not getting proper health care

Chris: He was injured in Iraq and was treated at Walter Reed Medical Center

Misty: Chris’ wife

Kim: Chris’ twin brother who also served in Iraq

Steve Robinson: The Director of Veterans Affairs at “Veterans for America”

On Thursday, March 1st, the two-star general in charge of Walter Reed Army Medical Center
was relieved of command following disclosures that wounded soldiers being treated there were
living in deplorable conditions and enduring long waits for treatment.
Many veterans are facing poor care and red tape at military medical centers all around the country.
This leaves us wondering if our injured soldiers are getting the attention they need.
Today, we are going to hear straight from soldiers who fought in Iraq, some of whom were injured.
We’ll find out if they feel they have been failed.
We’ll meet Stefanie who is a former Captain in the US Army. Her husband, Captain Michael Pelkey,
committed suicide only one week after being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Stefanie feels that it could have been prevented if health care was better for returning soldiers.
Tonia’s life was turned upside down in August of 2005 when she received word that her husband’s
convoy had been ambushed. We’ll hear the great lengths this woman went just to see her husband and
how she became a spokesperson for “Operation Homefront”. We’ll meet identical twin brothers Chris
and Kim who both served for our country. Chris will describe the day his convoy was attacked.
We’ll also meet Steve Robinson who is the Director of Veterans Affairs for “Veterans for America”.

1. Very compelling stories from these Iraq vets and their families.
I feel so bad for these families....

--------------------

Vets4Vets help Iraq Vets to:

http://www.vets4vets.us/

1. Feel Good: about themselves and the good parts of their military service.

2. Heal: from the negative aspects of their military service and the war.

3. Take Power: play powerful and increasingly rational roles in how the society
deals with issues affecting veterans, the military and foreign policy.

Vets4Vets is a non-partisan project. All Iraq-era veterans are welcome.
We leave our politics behind us at the door when we get together to help other
Iraq-era veterans—and to help ourselves! We include Iraq-era veterans from all
across the political spectrum on the issue of the war.

Vets4Vets support groups consist of military veterans listening and taking equal and
uninterrupted turns telling their stories within an agreement of complete confidentiality.

"I can't talk to my friends at home, they just don't understand."

"My Dad's blood pressure is too high and my mom's heart isn't good.
I can't tell them what I did, what I saw, how it was for me."
