Clinton: Right-wing conspiracy is back

LINK

The "vast, right-wing conspiracy" is back, presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton is warning, using a phrase she once coined to describe partisan plotting. Once derided for her use of the phrase, Clinton is now trying to turn the imagery to her advantage.

Speaking Tuesday to Democratic municipal officials, the New York senator used the term to hammer Republicans on election irregularities. She also used the phrase similarly during a campaign appearance over the weekend in New Hampshire.

Clinton was first lady when she famously charged allegations of an affair between her then-president husband Bill Clinton and White House intern Monica Lewinsky were the result of a conservative conspiracy. As evidence of the affair eventually came to light, the comment was ridiculed. But many Democrats have since insisted that Clinton was correct, pointing to the well-documented efforts by conservative financier Richard Mellon Scaife to fund a network of anti-Clinton investigations.

On Tuesday, she asserted the conspiracy is alive and well, and cited as proof the Election Day 2002 case of phone jamming in New Hampshire, a case in which two Republican operatives pleaded guilty to criminal charges, and a third was convicted.

"To the New Hampshire Democratic party's credit, they sued and the trail led all the way to the
Republican National Committee," Clinton said. "So if anybody tells you there is no vast right-wing conspiracy, tell them that New Hampshire has proven it in court," she said.

Former RNC operative James Tobin was convicted of telephone harassment and appealed his conviction. The investigation arose after Democratic organizers' phones were overwhelmed by annoying hang-up calls hindering their get-out-the-vote efforts.

5. I'm sure she's seen it
You have to wonder how much of this is her spin and how much is media spin. Did she really say that they are back? Or did lazy media scribes say "Hmmm. She hasn't mentioned the right wing conspiracy in a while, she must think it is back."

Oops....he didn't lift a finger.

Why not, Hillary? The RW conspiracy and RW media only gets a counter from Clinton loyalists when Clintons are running for office? Is that what we developed the Dem party for all those years? Just to serve and defend Clintons?

*On edit* Oh, NOW I get it. Hilary is trying to appeal to progressives, left-wing democrats, and disaffected voters who have a chip on their shoulders. She wants our money and our votes.

9. The accurate term is RW Thugs
They never went away, although they had been laying a little low after getting Bushetal in the WH. Instead, they've been going after the local politics in the firm belief that they have cover from those above them.

14. The Clintons didn't NOTICE the last 6 years Bush was attacking the Dem party.
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 11:20 AM by blm
So TeamClinton stayed silent and never countered the attacks against other Democrats and the party, itself, the last 6 years.

They certainly spent alot of time countering the Dems attacks against Bush and his Iraq policy, though, didn't they?

26. So, you agree with Hillary that RW conspiracy is back now just to attack her?
Or did the RW conspiracy grow STRONGER in the last 8 years and has been used against EVERY Democrat who opposed BushInc?

And let's review how the Clinton team acted to counter the RW conspiracy that has been used by TeamBush to attack Democrats over the last 8 years.

Oh yeah - they didn't pop up until last September.

29. oh, is that what she said?
Or is it that you are so involved in your endless trashings of the Clinton's that you're willing to help the VRWC along by spinning everthing she says or does in the most negative light possible?

"On Tuesday, she asserted the conspiracy is alive and well, and cited as proof the Election Day 2002 case of phone jamming in New Hampshire, a case in which two Republican operatives pleaded guilty to criminal charges, and a third was convicted.

"To the New Hampshire Democratic party's credit, they sued and the trail led all the way to the
Republican National Committee," Clinton said. "So if anybody tells you there is no vast right-wing conspiracy, tell them that New Hampshire has proven it in court," she said."

How does this translate into Hillary saying the VRWC is "back now just to attack her"?

since you've been making it 30-40-50 times a day for the last 6 months on this board.

That still doesn't give you the right to make assertions that aren't supported by the article you're referencing.

21. Not so fast
The Telecommunications bill basically handed the rest of the media over to the far right. If that's not enabling I don't know what is.

Maybe appointing Michael Powell to the FCC to boot qualifies- or letting big PhARMA advertise on TV (further padding far right coffers). Or deregulating the financial industry.

These were policy choices that some of us remember well- and knew would turn out disastrously, both for the party and for the American people.

Conspiracy??? :freak:

I always thought a conspiracy was where a group plotted in secret to do an evil or underhanded thing. I don't see a whole hell of a lot about what this nest of vipers is up to that is secret at all. Most of it is right out in the open.

"Vast Right Wing Public Campaign" is more like it.

24. Yes & No
Yes, it's back. No, it's not what she thinks.

It's one word: Obama

He's their secret weapon Hillary-Smasher. I kept wondering why even repubs hav nice things to say about Obama and why is the media acting like he's a star?

Then, I see the media go out of it's way to trash Hillary and it all comes together. He's their strawman to take Hil's guaranteed (not anymore) black votes. She can't win without them.

They'd rather run against Obama - who just doesn't have the weight Hil has. So, they've shined up this obscure person most of us never heard of or gave a damn about (and, he doesn't give a damn about us, either) and turned him into the boy-wonder overnight.

They hyped him so hard that he started believing the lie, too. He can't win - racism is way too deep for that. Hillary could win.

27. I think there is a misunderstanding
The phrase "vast, right-wing conspiracy is back" is not Hillary's phrase it's the media's. Hillary is just now starting to reuse the phrase "right-wing conspiracy" My guess is she feels it politically safe and even savvy to strike a nerve in the American conscious and enforce the idea that there is a conspiracy by the right.

I like the fact that she is bringing it to light at a time when this administration is becoming unraveled. I just wish she was more pro-active about getting our troops out of Iraq.

last 6 years.

We all know it just grew stronger - especially after 9-11 when it was the only message machine the corpmedia used.

If the Clinton machine was so powerful and represented the best of the Dem party warriors, then why didn't they work throughout that entire period to set the record straight against BushInc's lies or defend ALL Democrats and the party itself, who were under constant attack?

and they don't stir up the waters unless it's safe or it benefits their political goals. Bu I'm still just happy to see Hillary or anyone for that matter speak out against "right-wing machine" regardless of the reasons.

32. Whatever Hillary.
Somehow I doubt that New Hampshire Democrats, who threw the bums out last year, are in any doubt that there is a right-wing conspiracy.

The conspiracy that needs more light shed on it is the conspiracy of Democrats to use this right-wing conspiracy to undermine other Democrats when it suits their ambitions. And, unfortunately, Hillary and her campaign henchmen are a part of it.
