EMERGING MARKETS REPORT
Emerging markets tumble amid financial turmoil

By Polya Lesova, MarketWatch
Last update: 4:47 p.m. EDT Sept. 15, 2008C

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Emerging-market equities around the world posted steep losses Monday, as turmoil surrounding top Wall Street banks engulfed the financial markets.

Stock averages in Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America tumbled. Equities in Russia, India and Brazil -- three of the so-called BRIC heavyweights -- fell sharply.

In Mumbai, India's benchmark Sensex stock index ended down 3.4%. In Moscow, the dollar-denominated RTS stock index dropped 4.8% and the ruble-denominated MICEX stock index dropped 6.2%. In Brazil, the Bovespa stock index tumbled 6.8%.

Several key Asian markets managed to side-step the full force of a financial blowout, at least for Monday, due to public holiday closures in Japan, China, Hong Kong and South Korea. See Asia Markets.

2. Down 5% so far this morning. The question is then who is leading and who is following
If Dow is following, then we will be down another 500 points tomorrow. :(
