A very telling photo of Shrub's popularity in South America
Columbia is supposedly "our strongest ally in South America".

http://www.watchingamerica.com/eltiempo000034.shtml

How dangerous is it for an American president to visit Colombia? Pictured below is a member of Colombia's ceremonial honor guard being unceremoniously frisked by a U.S Secret Service agent before the official welcoming of President Bush. No U.S. President - including President Bush on Sunday - has ever spent the night there.

1. even though I despise bush .... the Secret Service has to do this.
People around any U.S. President with guns have to be checked over.

4. True - but considering he has that great big weapon in his
hand - what is the Secret Service checking for? A drop pistol so the guy can allege that Bush tried to shoot him first?

:hi: Bot!

6. Oh they might be looking for maybe a clip of .30 cal bullets.
I was at one Kerry event in Columbus in 04 and the secret service were very good
and also had zero sense of humor.

5. I'd like to see the president of France or Togo demand to search our honor guard.
Can you imagine the outcry about "national sovereignty" and "insults"?

7. Sadly they have to do this.
Sadat of Egypt was killed by his own military.

President Ghandi of Indian was killed by one of his own guards.

And you can be sure that the President of France has security that checks
out things too.

2. If you saw the pics of the protests in the streets, you would understand why this is necessary...
Massive protests, riot police, all for visiting Bush...

9. Yet Saddam, the "Butcher of Baghdad"
would be walking in a crowd, reach out and grab a piece out of someones hand and crank off a clip into the air.
At the same time scenes like that were shown on the news, George the Elder, visited the troops in Kuwait, prior to GW I. Those troops were made to turn in all ammunition.
