4. I GUARANTEE you...
That if I were in charge of that effort, and had complete control over resources, and had a good staff, and was responsible for ALL decisions made, I guarantee you I could do a better job.

5. the OP is not FEMA
Edited on Tue Sep-16-08 12:04 PM by musette_sf
and doesn't OWE the TAXPAYERS of TEXAS, a state in the United States, one damn thing - unlike FEMA.

stupid answer. "you think the ones who are controlling the delivery and dispensation of the resources that these ppl paid for in their taxes are screwing it up? then YOU, one solitary person, who is not in any position to deliver and dispense the goods that were paid for by the taxes of those in need, YOU do it."

:eyes:

enjoy your stay.

PS, TCJ = TCJester?

I couldn't screw it up much worse. They have had time and money. They had years after Katrina to plan.When Ike was coming, they had enough time to coordinate a relief effort. And don't tell me shit about downed trees, traffic jams, etc. If those morans can't see those problems ahead of time, they are beyond help. I know people can't foresee everything, but they can't foresee much of anything. There was a news story about 3 groups that were involved in an argument over who was to blame - the local, state and federal governments. And don't tell me that I can't handle a disaster aftermath either. I have enough sense to hire people who do, and make sure they are in touch at all levels.

20. Jimmy Carter spoke very passionately about this recently..
he started FEMA as an independent and non-political entity to perform a specific function, and it worked well for a while. Until Bushco got a hold of it, turned it into an underfunded political arm and buried it in Homeland Security so they could bust the union.

13. FEMA got the shit beat out of them after Katrina...
and still, it appears nothing has changed. It must be due to one of the following:

1) Willful disregard on FEMA's part.

2) Stupidity on FEMA's part.

3) The people running FEMA are masochists.

http://www.maroonspoon.com/wx/ike.html

Interesting presser - talking about the threats of disease on Galveston island.

Says there's a lose tiger in Crystal Beach... pet. Jokingly said there's a lot of cattle lose as well.

Any thoughts on Marshal law -yes they are going to get the Bolivar peninsula vacated, eve if it comes to that.
Whatever happened to the right to private property.

17. Not anybody rhere according to this:
<snip>
The Bolivar Peninsula and the west end of Galveston Island saw some of the heaviest damage from the storm and took the longest to reach as flooded roads, high winds and washed-out bridges blocked search-and-rescue teams. But when help finally arrived to the last unexplored, Ike-ravaged area, there were few people around; they had either gotten out ahead of the storm or escaped afterward.
<snip>

Have they been raptured away?? The numbers still don't make sense to me. Before the storm they were guessing that about 14000 people stayed in the affected region and 23000 in Galveston. What happened??

25. Any dead would have been washed out to see - unlike New Orleans
which sits in a bowl.

I think it's going to be a long time before we figure out that people can't locate their loved ones, and by that time, it will be off the front pages of the news.

33. They reported yesterday that they'd found 60 survivors on Bolivar...
Edited on Tue Sep-16-08 02:31 PM by countryjake
I heard it reported on KHOU and last night saw an article, that after three days of trying to get into the most severely damaged part of the peninsula, rescuers had finally found 60 people who had stayed behind to ride out the storm. The piece also stated that they'd found no bodies and that they most likely would be wrapping up their search for survivors on Tuesday (today)!

27. Wrong. It's because the hurricane had the unfortunate trait
of not occurring during the Republican National Convention.

Hmmm... anybody wanna ask if McCain would like to vote for a FEMA probe now?

16. This is how Republicans care. . .
Wasn't there a clip run from Texas by the Governor of Texas during the RNC convention showing relief efforts with the comment something to the effect, This is how Republicans work/care in tandem with local government during national crises? Now that would be an interesting ad and sound byte, eh?

then truck them into areas, set up a proper distribution program, instead of these single long line frustratingly insane practices.
