John Ashcroft
Yes.

I know this sounds insane.

Is it possible that Ashcroft "stepped down" because ethics prevented his full cooperation with his Master?

I mean, Ashcroft and ethics shouldn't even be used in the same sentence, but I keep wondering after all the recent revelations.

6. Gonzo does tend to make Ashcroft look good -
in much the same way that * has rehabilitated the entire Republican presidency for the past 7 decades.

He makes Reagan look smart.
He makes Ford look agile.
He makes Nixon look honest.
He makes Eisenhower look like a diplomat.
He's even beginning to make Hoover look like an economist.

9. Ashcroft had some principles
He refused to sign off on some questionable move the White House wanted to make from his hospital bed after gall bladder surgery. I think it had something to do with the rights of detainees.

Gonzo wrote the official excuses for torture and his willing to let Bush make him look foolish, as when Bush issued a signing statement nullifying a clause that Gonzo negotiated into some anti-terror legislation. Of course, Gonzo supported Bush's "right" to nullify acts of Congress by signing statements.
