To get peoples minds off of other matters? Like Rove being called to testify before Congress maybe? Or Gonzos chief of staff resigning perhaps? We all know that Peter Pace never utters a word unless the minders Bush has assigned to him tell him to. Obviously Peter Pace is not bright enough to think and comment about anything on his own.

1. Don't put anything past this WH
They have a past record of *stirring the shitpot* to deflect from what they are doing. It's a Rovian maneuver.

2. It's a possibility.
But this week is going to bring lots of other goodies, as well.

4. Very unlikely
Pace's comments were part of a long-form interview with the Chicago Trib, not a press conference. The newspaper brought up the don't-ask, don't-tell policy, and Pace just answered the questions. Seems like a coincidence.

I can't see what all the fuss over his answer is about. By military law, homosexual acts (he didn't say gay people, but the actual behavior) are not only immoral, but criminal for military members.

I mean, it's a stupid policy, but did people not know that was the official policy? That homosexual sex is not only incompatible with military service, but can be punished by a jail sentence? As can adultery, btw.

You can protest the idiotic military law, but Pace didn't say anything that went beyond it.
