Well Wal Mart is at it again
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 01:04 PM by Bluzmann57
Just saw the noon news on a local TV station and there was a report on a new Wal Mart going up in Silvis, IL. The report said that Wal Mart is using out of town non-Union labor. Some Teamsters are out there picketing and a guy who was interviewed said it best, "Our members and other Union people who shop here are defeating our purpose", or words to that effect. He's right. Just another reason not to shop there. It seems that the least they could do is hire Union in town labor to build the place. At least if they want it built right.
On edit- I'm still trying to find a link to this story. The station which aired it doesn't have it on their website. I'll keep looking.

1. What I find hard to understand
is that the number retailer on the planet has enough profits and money in the bank that sharing some with employees would not effect their bottom line. Hell, I'd say go ahead and raise your prices a tad and pay your people a decent wage; open up the doors to unions.

3. Try to wrestle a five dollar bill out of the hands of a billionaire
some time. Then it'll be easier to understand.

4. I'm a thousandaire
and I can relate to that. I worked for Wal-Mart in the early 70's. Mr Sam would come every couple of months and give us a pep talk. Very good man. We had to get to work early on Saturdays to put out all the MADE IN AMERICA signs by the cash registers. Those were Wal-Marts good old days.

Saturday Specials - 20 inch push mowers for $23.00 on sale til noon.

2. Their astro-turfer's are hitting newspapers with LTTE's
here's one today...

Buffalo should welcome Wal-Mart with open arms

Why is it that all we hear are negative comments on the expansion of Wal-Mart, all while $60-plus million of state money is being committed on a useless sports store in the City of Buffalo? Wal-Mart is not asking for a cent from anybody.

Jobs, along with reasonable goods and services, are being offered to Western New York residents. This is evidenced by the fact that every Wal-Mart in existence is constantly packed with people.

How arrogant of Western New York, with its current economy, to give a successful business that actually wants to be here so much trouble.

People are complaining of potential traffic problems? How ridiculous. It’s like a Catholic church complaining that it doesn’t have enough pews to fit everybody who wants to be there and telling people not to come to church.

5. If Wal-Mart didn't ask for 'anything' from the local government, it'll be a first. They
are usually after zoning law exemptions, money to pay for 'traffic control' or new roads to give them easier access, or tax breaks by restricting the value of their property or something.

7. I worked at
Wal-Mart Number Six on South 71 back in high school in 70 and 71. It was just a big Mom and Pop operation then. Things started going corporate way too big time when Mr Sam died.
