We could have kissed the United States good-bye. This bunch of thieves saw the 2004 election as vindication for their policies and a complete endorsement of their continuation. If the GOP had sustained heavy losses but kept their majority, I think the United States as formerly constituted would have ceased to exist.

As it is, we have very little standing between us and a dictatorship, and we have to use every means at our disposal. Keep contacting your Senators and Representatives -- they're the only ones in any position to do anything constitutionally. Remind them that if they don't do their jobs, we might have to, and in that event, it won't be nice and neat with people calling one another "my distinguished colleague."
