Crohn's Disease Research Bill: I Have Crohn's
Long-overdue treatments for autoimmune disorders such as Crohn's promise to deliver crossover research breakthroughs in cancer research, infectious diseases, and other more well-known conditions.

By learning how to mediate and - in some cases, repair - immune responses that have run amok, scientists are developing a deeper understanding of how to goose the immune response after cancer therapy, and teaching cells how to combat previously life-threatening viruses.

If you have time, please contact your local Member of Congress and your state's Senators, to ask them to support this modest proposal to enhance the NIH budget for studying Crohn's and related disorders: http://www.google.com/search?as_q=hr+1113+inflammatory&hl=en&num=10&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=thomas.loc.gov&as_rights=&safe=off

Thank you.

- Dave

28. Thanks. I am lucky. Having kids seems to have improved mine. It
seems to work that way for about 1/3 of women with UC. Now I am more like IBS. Been several years since I had a real UC flare up. :)

38. There Is NOTHING You Can Order On-Line to Treat Crohn's or Any IBD
Being a transcriptionist is one thing; I used to typeset a medical journal but that doesn't give me leave to recommend websites selling god knows what to treat a disease that can and does kill. Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis are serious, dangerous disease and while this advice was undoubtedly meant well, it is not the right thing to recommend to people with a disease that causes their intestines to swell and bleed.

14. K&R - will do
funding is very important. I have an immune-system illness that is not as well known, and several years ago, NIH was given, I think 12 million to do research. Instead, they gave the money away to other programs, and weren't caught for a couple of years. Making sure the funding gets to the right place is VERY important!

PS: Dave, check your pm when you get a chance.

29. Yeah. I was 10 when my ulcerative colitis started. Was on prednisone
for ages and I can still remember my check up at 13 when I reported to my doc that I had started my period. There had been some concern that things might have gotten messed up for me.

43. I have to admit, though,. that prednisone was the only thing
that kept me from having my colon removed and a colostomy bag stuck on to me when I was 11. So for all it's bad points I can't complain there.

36. I was in my thirties. They said mine was a moderate case, but I have
been able to handle it. I've only had a few very minor flare-ups, nothing to write home about.

I have a friend with UC and now he has MS. He's OK in the winter, but come summer, he's a mess.

42. My UC always flared up in the spring and we figured out it was
because of final exams. Not just the stress of taking them but the fact hat I am a stay-up-all-night crammer. Lack of sleep is the first thing to set off both my UC and my bipolar.

46. My sister had ulcerative colitis
She had an ileostomy about 4 years ago. It took a long time for her to recover from it, as she had the j pouch procedure done (so she doesn't have a bag). She had chronic infections while healing up from the surgeries, but is finally at the point where she is feeling better. She just can't ever eat nuts or mushrooms again.

She was sick for a long time, from the time she was 18 or maybe even earlier. The doctors at one point diagnosed her with crohn's disease.
