DOJ Attorney Investigating Halliburton Stymied, Then Purged in 04? Waxman Subpoena Could Get Answers
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 08:05 PM by CorpGovActivist
"At this time {July 2004}, Mr. Clark {then, Deputy Chief of the Fraud Section of the Criminal Division of the DOJ} informed me that his team of investigators had been stymied at almost every turn up until this point – hinting that the obstruction was coming from the Administration itself. He informed me that I was free to share the details of our conversation (and of the FBI activities resulting from those conversations) with anyone I chose – including, he said very pointedly, the media."

{...}

"It is noteworthy that soon after the general election in 2004, Peter Clark resigned from the Justice Department, and went into private practice. Since then, the investigation and enforcement activities appear to have languished. I surmise that Mr. Clark was worn out, after trying to butt heads with those above his pay grade: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=peter+clark+deputy+chief+fraud."

From my letter to Senators Byrd and Rockefeller, September 20, 2006, the full text of which is available at: http://www.halwhistleblowers.org.

As Waxman and others look into the stories of DOJ career attorneys forced out, I hope they invite Mr. Clark to share his stories about the Halliburton Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigation, and the "static" he received from his higher-ups.

I feel his pain, trying to condense ALL this crap into a comic is torturous.

When they were in the minority, they actually focussed their time on matters such as this. Quietly and in the background.

Because they knew they wouldn't have a chance at introducing bills or even amendments to Republican bills.

Time well spent, as they say.
