Constitutional Crisis!
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 09:46 PM by longship
This US Attorney business is a very serious constitutional crisis. It very much appears that the Bush administration had hatched a plot--at the highest level--to first push into law a bill that circumvented senatorial oversight on US Attorney appointments, then had planned to fire *all* US Attorneys and replace them with political hacks who would then do the bidding of their political bosses, prosecuting Democrats while all Republican crimes go unprosecuted.

Schumer is positively *livid* about this. Go to TPM site and view and listen to the Schumer/Feinstein presser. Schumer outlines an absolutely astounding trail of evidence that very well may show that ChimpCo has entered into such massive obstruction of justice that the entire Watergate affair will look like a minor matter.

This *is* HUGH1111!.

1. Pshaw! Somebody rec'd, but didn't kick.
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 10:09 PM by longship
Can't understand why somebody would recommend a post without at least kicking it, too. It takes such little effort to do so.

If a post is worth a Rec, wouldn't you want it to also be promoted to the top of the forum by at least posting a short response?

42. Hey Swamp Rat...
That's a great pic! Anyway...I can understand a moderate amount of Spanish, but I wasn't sure what "pendejo" meant. I figured it was something vulgar, though.

Not wanting to show my stupidity in front of y'all, I went and googled it. In the process, I ran across this in the comments section of an article about Bush's pig farm. Worth a read, in itself.

http://pulpfriction.blogspot.com/2005/08/when-did-this-happen-i-see-bush-is-now.html

"For those non-Spanish speakers, a pendejo (pen DAY ho) is a word that doesn't precisely translate into English.
It more or less means a stupid asshole who hasn't got the sense to realize what a dweeb he is.

By Karen Zipdrive, at 12:57 PM

addendum from Wikipedia.com:

Pendejo is a vulgar term of abuse in the Spanish language. To call a person a pendejo is essentially to call him stupid, although it also carries implications of willful stubbornness and rank ineptitude. The female equivalent is pendeja; either form can be used as a noun or an adjective. The insult is particularly prevalent in the Spanish spoken in North and Central America, where it is considered moderately to highly offensive. In terms of equivalent cultural impact, it ranges somewhere at the level of the British English "wanker" or the U.S. English "asshole".

The literal meaning of pendejo is "strand of pubic hair".
"

43. yes
It is vulgar. More specifically it means: 'little, shit-covered ass hair.'

It is not pronounced "pen DAY ho." "-DAY-" has an English diphthong, whereas vowels are 'pure' in Spanish.

If you were to pronounce it like that in East LA you might end up in trouble just for sounding like a gringo. :D

10. "Constitutional Crisis" is normal operating mode for the Bush Cabal
Selected by the Supremes, installing a "unitary executive", a voluntarily toothless GOP congress, looting the Treasury, selling out one the safety & security of the country, ignoring al Qaeda until they attacked us, ignoring New Orleans before during and two years after the flood, decimating the CIA, destroying the military & pissing off every last one of our allies.

The last 6 yrs have been an unmitigated, unrelenting disaster that will take us DECADES to overcome.

I completely agree with you. This is a constitutional crisis with the AG clearly doing the business of the cabal and not the business of the people.

I just hope something finally sticks to the teflon blivet** and his hosebag buddies this time.

23. It was nice to see and hear Josh on KO.
Keith did some outstanding work on this. I can only hope that the rest of the MSM catches on that this might be a very important story.

What needs to happen immediately...

* AG needs to resign, or face certain impeachment and removal from office. Congress needs to make this patently clear.

* A special prosecutor needs to be appointed to investigate possible criminal activity, including obstruction of justice, perjury, and conspiracy to supborne and obstruct justice.

* Congress needs to hold hearings.

* Senate needs to investigate Pete Domenici and House needs to investigate Heather Wilson to determine if disciplinary action is appropriate. It should be made patently clear that expulsion should be on the table from day one.

* An independent hearing should be initiated by the House Judiciary Committee whether impeachable offenses have occurred.

26. Thanks, Ladyhawk.
A camel has a strong back, yet pile on enough straw, and one little extra piece of straw does him in.

We keep on saying that "surely this scandal will be the one that breaks ChimpCo". Yet ChimpCo perseveres. But by now the pile of straw is surely burdensome. Each additional straw has the capacity to complete the work of the assembled mass. When it will happen might be uncertain but let there be absolutely no doubt that the straws will continue to pile up and the beast is going to inevitably collapse under the weight.

Keep the faith. We're all with you.

I'll predict that Chimp will be gone by year's end.

32. Logic would say that Bush would be gone by the end of the year, but
most of Congress is still afraid of him.

I can't believe that any president, past, present, or future, has deserved impeachment more than Bush/Cheney.

If anything will get Congress off it's collective ass and investigate this, this, whatever, it's stepping on Congress's toes.

One problem, though.........it's a law Congress passed. They got some 'spainin' to do also.

Since nothing happens to stop them, it has turned into "no big deal" or "business as usual" in public perception.

I noticed the inside-the Beltway folks are getting really worked up about this; the media people, the commentators. I sorta thought this was yet another scandal but reading their faces is telling me a lot...they know that's not how Things are Done, as it were. Too bad the public doesn't follow how checks and balances work anymore...

34. It is also an ethical crisis for every practicing attorney
Attorneys a governed by rules of professional conduct...and such rules must be adhered to by both the supervising attorney and the subordinate attorney...neither party is excused if they act unethically. No attorney can bring a frivolous action, and they must weigh all possible conflicts before going forward. They must be able to act with a certain amount of independence, and are not excused for acting unethically simply because they were doing a superior's bidding, in this case the White House.
