Abu Ghraib officer wants statements tossed in court-martial

The only U-S military officer charged in the abuse of prisoners at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison wants a military judge to toss out statements he made denying that he saw prisoners mistreated.

Army Lieutenant Colonel Steven Jordan had a hearing yesterday and faces court-martial in July. The reservist from Fredericksburg, Virginia, used to direct the interrogation center at Abu Ghraib.

The statements he wants thrown out are now the basis of charges that he lied about his role in the scandal.
