Gonzales SHOULDN'T be fired or resign
before you drag out the flame throwers, put your eyes back in your head and lift your jaw up out of your lap...

Gonzales shouldn't be fired, nor should he resign. If he's fired or resigns - it will be the end of the story and become move along nothing more to see.
Congressional hearings will move on to something else, and with rare exceptions no more information will be forthcoming...

The only way we are going to get more information and understand the length and depth of the political dirty work is to have more hearings, and one of those hearings should be on IMPEACHMENT of Gonzales.

Such hearings will make the dots bigger, easier to see and easier to connect.

(The Constitution Section 4. Impeachment

The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors. )

The DCDems think the people want Congress to do something besides protect the system of Constitutional Governance.

2. I suspect that substative hearings on this issue, let alone impeachment,
would lead to Gonzeles being shown the door.

3. not to mention the Constitutional restriction on the Prez pardon power
would keep Gonzo unable to be pardoned while impeached... Little jail time there Alberto? What would that do to your loyalty?

18. Common mistake about pardon power
The President does not have the power to pardon in matters of impeachment; that is, he could not stop the impeachment. He could, however, pardon Gonzo for any criminal acts and hence keep Gonzo out of jail.

24. Pardon relates only to criminal prosecution
Ford pardoned Nixon for any criminal acts he "may" have committed, thus pre-empting any criminal prosecution. There was no need for impeachment because Nixon resigned instead. Preemptive ... hmmm ... looks like the Pukes were doing that preemptive thing even way back then!

4. IMPEACH THE BASTARDS!
I wholeheartedly agree. We all need to get off these chatterboards, go to Congress' website and e-mail our Congressthings--scream in their ears until they act! which is my next step.

7. Remember, once is out of office, either by impeachment or by resignation...
He is subject to criminal and civil penalties. THAT is where we should be focusing.

9. Here's An Impeachment That's Doable
If there was case of abuse of power, obstruction of justice, lying to congress and total negligence, Gonzo is the poster boy. He's dangrously turned out judicial system into a political circus...turning the DOJ into a part of the RNC campaign slime machine.

For those who have seen (or give a shit what I say) what I've posted in the past, I've been against impeaching booshie & cheney for the same reason you say Gonzo shouldn't get off the hook...investigating to high and too fast will let a lot of the underling crooks...the future cheneys and booshes from gaining power. But unlike going against booooshie (and again, if there are the 67 Senate votes, go for it), Gonzo can and should be impeached as part of putting the brakes on the abuses of this regime.

While the corporate media will trump up an impeachment against boooosh as Democrats attempting to "overturn an election", Gonzo wasn't elected and this statements and actions have alienated Repugnicans as well. If they stand behind booooshie and Gonzo, then it's obvious to voters what Repugnicans stand for...corruption and a politicized justice system...something they aren't gonna want to deal with, but will have to, in '08.

Let the hearings begin!!!!

10. not to mention...
think, for just a minute about the implications. Gonzales makes me nostalgic for the days of Ashcroft (who was loony, but compared to Gonzo is John Marshall) is the next AG going to make us wax nostalgic for the days of Gonzo?

I have to agree with you. Fired or resign will not make it go away completely, but
it will soften the impact to the point that digging deeper won't really get anyone any where and it will be time to move on. Plus him staying keeps it on the front page.

I still want him to resign simply because he refuses to uphold the Constitution, and a resignation can't look good for Bush. True, though, that Bush won't replace him with someone much better.

15. resignation can't look good for Bush
it wouldn't look good, but it's still "same old stay the course crap" in Iraq and Rummy is gone

With Rummy gone and Gates in - Gates enjoys a "honeymoon" period and cover as in "gee I just got here and what a mess it is, so give me time"

If Gonzales resigns/fired - his replacement (good or bad) will enjoy the same sort of cover.

It's not enough just to get rid of Gonzales through a resignation or firing - he has to be impeached.

Hearings are good. Impeachment proceedings will be better.

16. Impeachment would be ideal, but..
I'm certainly not going to complain if Gonzales resigns. Even a little accountability in this administration would be good to see. First Libby, next Gonzales, and then who knows.

17. it's a matter of connecting the dots
with Libby gone - the dot which connects Cheney is gone

if Gonzales leaves - the dot that connects to Rove which connects to Bush is also gone

They are still able to be talked to. They don't just disappear.

No one said we should stop at Libby after he goes to jail. And Gonzales could still be subpoenaed.

We should start hearings into the Gonzales situation right away. But the dots are everywhere, and Gonzales could be indicted regardless of what he does.

23. I posted similar thoughts about Bush and Cheney
let their ugly faces keep staring at us at every news report.

Let their scandals drag all the way to Nov. 2008.

And.. let Congress concentrate on what really matters to regular voters: access to health care, jobs, education, retirement, cost of energy etc.

Sure, let Congress hold hearing about Walter Reed, for example, and about "law and order" that is not driven by politics, but let this Congress be the one that actually does something.
