Pastor John Hagee is the Father Coughlin of Christian evangelical preachers. He may not be an out and out anti-Semite like Father Coughlin, who after all hated ALL Jews while Hagee only hates liberal Jews--but with friends like Hagee, believe me, Jews need no enemies. How else to describe a man who predicts a new Holocaust against the Jews which will lead to the Second Coming (see below)?

Much has been written about the growing alliance between Israel, her hardline Jewish supporters, and Christian Zionists. I've written here about Rabbis Yechiel Eckstein and Daniel Lapin and their "mission" to the evangelical community. But nowhere has the danger that Christian Zionism poses for Israel been focussed more clearly than in Hagee's speech to the AIPAC's national policy conference. The group's national leadership made yet another terrible error in judgment in inviting him. Oh he gave a stem-winding pro-Israel speech, all right. Full of fire and brimstone toward the "terrorist" enemies of the Israel. Full of red meat for the 4,000 hardline pro-Israel delegates. It earned him multiple standing ovations.

1. The evangelicals love the Jews because they hate the Jews

The evangelicals believe that the Jews have to be converted in the "last days". They also believe that Israel must be destroyed as an overture to the end of the world. They want to Jews to rise up only so that they may fall. It's a real weird setup that is going on in the world today.

3. It astonishes me that the Israeli right cannot see the true intention

of the US Christian right.

It's like the American communist party's obliviousness to the intent behind the Nazi/Soviet non-aggression pact -- Stalin signed it not because he liked the Nazis, but because he knew he needed time to rebuild his army after his purges, and he knew that eventually the Nazis would break it. But the communists here were devastated when it happened.

Maybe some of the AIPAC leaders know that the Christian Zionists do not have their interests at heart, but from what I read I think the most of the Israeli and US Jewish right will be dumbfounded when Hagee et al declare that Jews are once again fair game for having murdered Jesus.

The Christian Zionists WANT a nuclear holocaust in Israel - how can that possibly be interpreted as friendship?
