Bloomberg is more popular in NYC than Giuliani — and by a LOT!

Mayor Michael Bloomberg's approval rating may have dipped but New York City voters say he is a better mayor than Rudolph Giuliani and would make a better president than his predecessor, according to a poll released Wednesday.

The mayor's approval rating slipped two points to 73%, hampered by criticism over his handling of the Valentine's Day snow and ice storm, and the rerouting of public school buses, according to a Quinnipiac University survey.

However, voters still said that Mr. Bloomberg is a better mayor than Mr. Giuliani by a 46%-to-16% margin, and that he would make a better president than his fellow Republican by a 46%-to-31% margin.

Mr. Giuliani, who has yet to formally announce his candidacy, is leading most major polls among Republican presidential hopefuls. That lead may come under pressure if Mr. Bloomberg throws his hat in the ring. There has been widespread speculation that the mayor is mulling a self-financed run as a third-party candidate.

1. Of course Bloomberg's better than Rudy.

Rudy's a phony and a thug. Bloomberg's a serious, ethical man, a brilliant businessman and manager and a fine mayor. If he were a third party presidential candidate, I'd seriously consider him. Very seriously. Particularly if The Dems nominate Hillary or anyone like her.

3. Well, at least you realize that Rudy did less to "clean up" the city than Bratton.

Rudy did a lot, however, to sell the city to the highest big box companies and real estate moguls.

that is the only credit i give rudy. i think mike is a good mayor, but i dont know that if he took over in the early 90's if his style would be as effective.

a good mayor in spite of his not letting us having a Marching Permit for Feb 15, 2003 when "The World Said No To War"..and whoever was responsible for all those Orange Alerts on that day didn't make us :scared:, either.

6. The snowplows were nonexistent (in the boroughs) and very late (in Manhattan)

in getting the drifts off the street. Walking through the streets was difficult, and driving must've been impossible!

Nearly half - 49% -- of the respondents said they disliked the fact that Mr. Bloomberg allowed thousands of motorists to be ticketed for failing to move their cars after the winter storm. The mayor initially called criticized motorists for not moving their cars, but the city eventually backed down and forgave the tickets.
