McCain's toast

Swiftboaters against Kerry take aim at McCain:

Meanwhile, the McCain campaign had no comment on the new 527, known as “Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain.” It is founded by the same veterans who ran an Internet information campaign against Kerry in 2004, “Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry.”

Vietnam veterans Jerry Kiley and Ted Sampley filed with the IRS late last month and recently launched a website with the “express purpose of defeating John McCain.” In contrast to the 2004 election, the group plans to run ads on television and radio in addition to its Web-based approach.

Sampley has compared McCain to the brainwashed “Manchurian Candidate” and is highly critical of McCain’s actions after his return home from Vietnam. Sampley calls himself “the one McCain hates most” and has a long history of battling McCain, including a conviction in the early 1990s for assaulting McCain aide Mark Salter.

Anti-tax group Club for Growth issues caution on electing McCain

The anti-tax group Club for Growth yesterday released a review of McCain’s record on its top priorities and cautioned against electing him president. Meanwhile, a new “527” advocacy group, similar to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, has pledged to expose McCain as a communist apologist who turned his back on prisoners of war.

In the Club’s review — its third “white paper” of the 2008 presidential election — the group concluded “the evidence of record and the virulence of his rhetoric suggest that American taxpayers cannot expect consistently strong economic policies from a McCain administration.”

In particular, the Club calls McCain’s tax record, most notably his opposition in 2001 and 2003 to President Bush’s tax cuts, “profoundly disturbing and anti-growth,” though it does praise him in areas such as spending restraint and free trade. It also calls his record on protecting political speech “appalling” in light of the McCain-Feingold campaign-finance reform bill.

1. The circular firing squad is becoming an almost daily ritual.
How nice!

8. Yes - AND they had better watch out. If they shoot them all
they won't have anyone to run against us. Even if Rudy gets it - there's plenty of dirt on him.

3. Not sure how I feel about this ...
... on one-hand, they're despicable lowlife shitheads because McCain did serve his country and was a POW .... but on the other hand ... he's been runnin' with some dirty dogs these last few years.

7. McCain WAS a true war hero- same as Kerrry
In addition to refusing early release and denying the North Vietnamese a propoganda victory by showing respect to the Admiral's son, McCain showed uncommon valor in the Forrestal disaster:

These people are the scum of the planet.

The guy is soooooooo past his expiration date. How was the ride, John? I hope you got a lot of money for your soul. You'll need it in your impending retirement.

5. Well, I guess they're non-partisan, huh? As much as I don't want McCain
to win, I HATE to see AH's like this group succeed at anything! Atleast if they're focusing on John, they're leaving all the other candidates alone!

6. No - i just proves they are still carrying water for BushInc, and BushInc pulled the rug
out from McCain that he was so carefully weaving all these years he supported Bush.

9. I agree with the first part.
But on top of that, this is causing some interesting thoughts in my brain.

Are veterans the only group in America who can almost single-handedly sabotage a presidential campaign?

Shouldn't there be some other groups who are so completely respected by American citizens that they could do this?

Doctors? Nurses? (Sadly, not teachers...)

Or maybe it just takes sheer numbers. If you had an organization called: "One million men against McCain" it might do as much damage.

Maybe that's the thing that we just never seem to do. Is let people see the sheer number of people who stand against a candidate.

Someone, for example, needs to organize "Republicans for Impeachment".

It would more people's attention.

11. Hope John Kerry gives him a cold hard stare
when McCain comes whining to his doorstep offering a truce and asking to renew their friendship.
