Damn Right, We're Angry: Progressives don't need to apologize for raging against conservative evils.

Damn Right, We're Angry
Paul Waldman
March 14, 2007

Paul Waldman is a senior fellow at Media Matters for America and the author of the new book, Being Right is Not Enough: What Progressives Can Learn From Conservative Success. The views expressed here are his own.

We can’t deny it any longer. There’s no point in hiding it, no point in trying to explain it away. Yes, it’s true: We progressives are angry. And we no longer care if the centrist, moderate guardians of the establishment scold us for it.

Our anger is not just some vague feeling whose source we can’t put our finger on. It isn’t based on absurd conspiracy theories and it isn’t illogical.

We’re angry because of what has happened to our country, because of how we’ve been treated, and because of the innumerable crimes the conservatives have committed. We’re angry at the president, we’re angry at the Congress, we’re angry at the news media. And we have every right to be.

Yes, we’re angry at George W. Bush. We’re not angry at him because of who he sleeps with, and we’re not angry at him because we think he represents some socio-cultural movement we didn’t like 40 years ago, or because he hung out with a different crowd than we did in high school. We’re angry at him because of what he’s done.

It’s true, we don’t like the fact that the most powerful human being on the planet is such a ridiculous buffoon that he can’t put two coherent sentences together without beginning to giggle and shimmy his shoulders. But we’re not angry because we think he’s stupid; we’re angry because he treats us as though we’re stupid. We’re angry that he lied to us, and lied to us and lied to us again. We’re angry that when he lies to us it isn’t because he’s caught up in scandal or got caught doing something he shouldn’t have, it’s part of a carefully constructed plan to fool the public. ....(more)

6. And WHAT THE HELL are YOU doing about it?

Something has GOT TO change, and it depends on A LOT more then which group of criminals is running Washington. Only when WE THE PEOPLE get pissed ENOUGH will they start listening, AND then something may change. Until then, the politicians pit one side against the other, so we can exchange one puppet master for the other, plus get to cheer a bit when our side wins, and in the long run NOTHING gets better for the people down here on the ground! Oh, we get a bit of a bone to naw on every now and then, but otherwise we GET SCREWED!

7. Actually I am NOT angry -- I AM CLEAR HEADED AND RATIONAL about what Bushco has done.
This "anger" is just more right-wing projection -- the right-wing is angry so they say we are to make us look bad.

My distaste for Bushco is based on rationality not blind emotion.

Manifesto by
Cat Empire

WE BELIEVE
In the grass in the trees
WE SUPPORT
Living life cause life is short
WE UPHOLD
Sky of blue sun of gold
WE MAINTAIN
On sunny days all sadness and pain be relieved
WE BELIEVE
The breeze blows the leaves in the gypsy king's court
WE SUPPORT
Food and wine song and thought and when the night gets cold
WE UPHOLD
The following rules that I'll sing
to you all
We believe in melody
and harmony
and all things sweet
we sing a yum-a-yum chum
to the moon and the sun
and the rumble of the drums
and the big fat beat
we believe in the ace up the sleeve
and we shine our gold teeth
at the cats in the alleys
a flame on a match
that the wind can't catch
and when the bad guys attack
the empire strikes back!

Rrrowr!

9. This deserves another kick.
When the progress of liberty, justice and equality are replaced with the politics of destroying human integrity in pursuit of partisan profiteering the line is crossed, and a battle must be joined.

"Nice is good" just doesn't cut it. We oughtn't accept losing 225 years of human progress on the premise that we won't look nice if we make a fuss.
