Documentary ABOUT Michael Morore -- right wing hit job?
Okay, here's the deal...this husband and wife team, who claim to be "left-winger's" and huge fans of Michael Moore, decided to do a documentary movie about the man they soooo admired. But, when he didn't want to grant them an interview for their movie they decided to use his own tactics against him and "examine some of his methods".

Personally, I think this is a hit piece. If you admire someone as much as they say they do, you don't make a movie that will hurt the the person you so greatly admire. On the other hand, I have occasionally heard of instances whereby Michael MAY HAVE plagerized or took ideas from others without acknowledgement. (There was an incident here on DU a while back. Anyone know the link to that?)

I just wanted to hear some of your thoughts on this...

Article here:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070311/ap_en_mo/film_manufacturing_dissent

Some excerpts from the article:

"...Moore actually did speak with then-General Motors chairman Roger Smith, the evasive subject of his 1989 debut "Roger & Me," but chose to withhold that footage from the final cut..."

"...The fact that Moore spoke with Smith, including a lengthy question-and-answer exchange during a May 1987 GM shareholders meeting, first was reported in a Premiere magazine article three years later. Transcripts of the discussion had been leaked to the magazine, and a clip of the meeting appeared in "Manufacturing Dissent." Moore also reportedly interviewed Smith on camera in January 1988 at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York..."

There's more.

4. hit job
it's too perfect of a setup. They're claiming to be lefties so they can say he hates us and so they could try to get closer. I would imagine he saw through it.

7. Caine claims to be a liberal, yet why are his targets always left-leaning?
At least his latest films attack the left.

9. The Frank Truth and Mr. Black
Mr. Black was a piece on Conrad Black and while damning to Black still showed Black as a warm and lovable guy. The Frank Truth was a hit piece on a liberal media rag.

10. There you go! Hit job.
I hate these "we're really one of you" tactics...I'm sure his friends didn't give interviews because they knew what was happening.

The part about Roger Smith "granting" an interview sounds pretty misleading as well. Asking questions at a shareholder meeting does not an interview make...

11. I dotn think so
As soon as Moore tried to talked to Roger's at the shareholders meeting, Rogers got up and left.

Im guessing its a hit job, the reason why, the right would of came up with all this before the 2004 election.

"MAY HAVE plagerized or took ideas from others without acknowledgement. (There was an incident here on DU a while back. Anyone know the link to that?)"

I don't have the link but I remember that. A poster accused Mike of lifting something from her blog. Several posters then jumped on Mike and started a witch hunt. A little while later someone posted the video of Mike using the same speech several years before. Some of us thought Mike deserved an apology. He never received one and the accusers continued their attacks. It was disgusting.

15. too late!
the busheviks can tear down Sir Michael ALL THEY WANT, but it will just invoke the memory of Clinton, or Kerry Al Gore etc, who were swiftboated. The only ones buying the bush snake oil are the freepers and even alot of them might be offended by an american working guy like Mike getting the rich asshole treatment Kerry and Clinton etc got. There simply are too few national working class lib leftists voices in the USA, and I betcha that will hamstring the busheviks efforts to hurt him(?)
The pigmedia is a truly evil entity and needs to be screwed right into hell (cuz it's only the pigmedia which can make swiftboating effective now)...
also, can anything bad happen to this fukkin society of ours? when slaves take their oppressor's side over critics, when working people side with the bosses, when the pooor defend and argue for the rich, when the free actively help those whio want to imprison them, then why is this bad? if the herd wants bush to ruin the kids' futures, why should we kill ourselves trying to get them to wise up?
>everyone should see 'who killed the electric car?'...GM, whether twas smith or not, knew from getgo they would kill the electric car, which could well save the air, but noooooo! greedy bastards, they are, and Michael Moore was right on!

16. "We're 'left-wingers' who belong to the Democrat party"
but truly, this is typical.
Did anyone watch Molly Ivins' face (apparent utter disdain and evident distaste, like such a gross spectacle was beneath her) when Al Franken was confronting O'Reilly in 2004 (or was it 2003) at an event she was at along with those two guys--or read Ellen Goodmans review of Fahrenheit 911?
