That said, certainly you must have an alternative to offer to the assembled?

29. I'm glad you think this is one big joke.
Because I'm certainly not laughing. And the tens of thousands of middle class americans losing jobs monthly aren't either. But by all means, don't let me rain on your parade.

10. Put 700b into prosecuting those that got us into this mess, siezing their assets,
and rebuilding America's infrastructure.

As well as starting the new economy of single-payer not-for-profit healthcare, the new economy of unlimited, sustainable energy.

Ending the war, prosecuting the war profiteers and re-collecting the funds stolen by these profiteers.

27. please...this whole thing smelled like shit
this thing in essence gave the secretary of the treasury carte blanche- There are a lot of smart economists etc who have very good ideas that might not result in the rape of the tax payer. My god there was no questioning of the deregulation that started this mess. Doesn't it strike you as strange how they were all pushing to get it done too quickly,,,,kind of like if they pass it quickly maybe people won't recognize what a ridiculous scam it was. Sure some form of bailout is good but not handing over our treasury to some scumbag like paulson---shame on the democrats for participating in this charade

6. It's gonna happen anyway - there is 500 trillion to 1 quadrillion in credit swaps that are worthless
750 billion would not fix this crisis - we need to put the guys that did this in jail.

This is a failure of Reaganomics - and if we pass this the Repubs will blame the entire depression on the dems.

We need the 700 billion to rebuild the new economy from the ground up - NOT support the guys that built a giant ponzi scheme and ripped us all off.

28. Well, they're certainly not going to jail now..
And they still get their golden parachutes when their banks finally fail.

Remember, Bush is still the President. He doesn't prosecute his friends.

11. Republican just spoke - said he was from the winning side and wanted a motion for reconsideration
They told him okay, and he wanted some "time" for it - but apparently the rules require immediate reconsideration, it is not at the speaker's discretion.

So the motion was accepted - votes changing as I type.

14. Too bad the DEms couldn't find it in their hearts to BAIL OUT poor and homeless folk!
They came this close to finding the money to bail out the rich, but there is NOT ONE PENNY for those of us living in our cars!!

Fie on 'em!

A $700 billion welfare handout for the RICH has failed. Good. As long as there is no bailout for the poor, there can be no bailout for the rich in good conscience.

38. Sadly, I think you're on to something there.
Rather than bailing out the corporations, we need to get corporations OUT of our government!

It's a cancer that is killing our whole system of democracy!

that passing this Bill would mean putting a coffin on top of Reagan's coffin. That's good enough for me. Socialism? Bring it on!

25. While I love anything social...
This is NOT the right kind of socialism.

This bailout would have been an example of "privatize the profits, socialize the losses." In other words, *corporate* socialism rather than populist socialism.
