Global warming is "part of a leftist agenda that threatened evangelical unity"
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/03/14/evangelical.rift/index.html

Nice to see that some right-wingers aren't letting something like global warming divert their attention from important things.

<snip>
A sharp difference of opinion over which issues ought to top the political agenda of Christian conservatives spilled out into the open at this week's meeting of the National Association of Evangelicals.

The group rebuffed complaints from some of the religious right's leading lights about the organization's newfound focus on global warming.

The group, which represents 45,000 churches and more than 60 evangelical denominations, took no action on a letter sent by 25 conservative Christian leaders demanding that the organization restrain its Washington policy director, the Rev. Richard Cizik, from putting forward his views on global warming. (Watch how issues divide evangelical group Video)

"We have observed that Cizik and others are using the global warming controversy to shift the emphasis away from the great moral issues of our time, notably the sanctity of human life, the integrity of marriage and the teaching of sexual abstinence and morality to our children," said the letter, which was signed by prominent religious conservatives such as James Dobson, Don Wildmon, Paul Weyrich and Gary Bauer.

15. No, God's fan club is actually
followers of Christ who value responsibility for the earth, conservation, and doing unto others. Compassion; love; empathy. Separation from the political sphere with a focus on caring for others as Christ cared for us.

(in the Christian sense anyway)

But the opposition has a well-oiled machine akin to a cult mentality, and it remains very, very difficult - enough to want to make one

3. Pollute unto others as you would have them pollute unto you.
Edited on Thu Mar-15-07 06:53 AM by HereSince1628
Hmmmm. A basic tenet emerging in every society, typically through religion, for the last 3 thousand years has been the notion Christians call the "golden rule;" do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Yeah, sure, it's a contemporary American leftwing agenda to subvert evangelical unity by reminding them of the basic tenets of their philosophy. I'd say a necessary agenda even. We only do it in order to help the evangelicals achieve their hope to live up to their self image as the men and women of superior righteousness.

4. Well then I guess they won't be supporting McCain, Newt or Rudy then
...if one of their "great moral issues" is the "integrity" of marriage....

6. Reality and the truth are part of the leftist agenda
and they will certainly effect the unity of religiously insane zealots.

Total fucking morons. So if our neighbors rearrange their furniture that will cause me and my wife to divorce? I can think like a fucking idiot too.

10. The right-wing obsession with sex, pregnancy, and childbirth is comical.
I mean honestly, is there any issue that the fundies really care about that doesn't have something to do with sex, pregnancy, or childbirth?

For them there is no moral dimension to Bush's War in Iraq, stewardship of the Earth, or poverty - just sex, pregnancy, and childbirth.

Where does this pelvic-centered morality arise from? Is it in their Bible?

14. They talk about the "moral" issues of our time but no mention of

POVERTY
LACK OF HEALTH CARE
HUNGER
WAR
THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR ENVIRONMENT
MURDER

They have some fucking disgusting priorities. They don't care whether children live or die they just want to make sure they don't love who they want to love or enjoy themselves before they're killed.

18. It's true. These people are twisted in a way that seems clinically pathological.

Scary stuff, when they let their guard down and blurt it out loud like that. Really show what's going on inside their heads. :yoiks:

19. Attention, America (and concerned observers elesewhere):

The Evangelical Christian Right-Wing is a danger to us all.

It's that simple.

Hell, when ya convene a meeting of the board of the National Association of Evangelicals... and these right-wingers are rebuffed as the freaky fringe...

Well, you've just got to know there's something pathological about them.

Time (long past time, actually) for the right-wing religionists to simply be ignored when they squawk.

And let the sane people of this country get back to work on what Americans, at our best moments, have always done: rolling up our sleeves, putting our backs into the job, and getting problems solved.

We used to call that Progress.

:salute:

20. I should have known...
Abstinence is much more important than the fate of the planet! :sarcasm: :eyes:

I suppose taking good care of our home (the Earth), would not be to our benefit, cuz what do we need with it? The Earth has nothing to do with human life, right? :sarcasm:

than something stupid like, oh, say, THE EXTINCTION OF LIFE ON EARTH AS WE KNOW IT.

God, I loathe these people.
