Do you think the next President should curb the power of the Executive Branch?

Even though I believe that 2008 will be pretty much a walk for the Democrats, I'd like the President to cut his own powers, especially those that were gained during the Bush Administration. Our separation of powers have been damaged these past several years, it's time to reverse it IMHO.

Just as there should be separation of State and Church

there should be separation of powers between Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches.

If anyone noticed in the Constitution the Legislative branch is listed first.

...but it needs to be done by the current Congress. After what we've been through the past six years we can't afford to let it go and trust it to someone else. One brush with a dictatorship is enough for a lifetime.

People sure have short memories. Don't you recall how hard they worked to undermine the Presidency during the Clinton years? They will pick right back up where they left off until another Republican is "elected" again and then it will be more power for Administration and less for Congress (the people) once again...It is hard wired into them.. They must dominate....not just lead but dominate...the whole world..

6. Why? The whole History of the US

has been about expanding the power of government. Most people involved with Federal government are authoritarian by nature and see no benefits to reducing their power and control.

But to answer your question yes. I would like to see the next executive utterly do away with Presidential signing statements, the War powers resolution, control over National Guard and other egregious dictatorial powers.

I think it would be determined that there are certain powers the executive cannot cede to the Congress/Judiciary (and vice versa). He/she might not take the ambitious stances that GWB has, but I don't think he could actually reduce the scope of his powers in any meaningful, statutory way.

And frankly, that would probably the last thing on the nexts Presidents mind.
