Rep. Dennis Kucinich: "Impeachment May Well Be the Only Remedy"
Submitted by davidswanson on Thu, 2007-03-15 14:44

Remarks on the floor of the U.S. House, March 15, 2007
www.kucinich.us

This House cannot avoid its Constitutionally authorized responsibility to restrain the abuse of Executive power.

- snip -

Article VI of the US Constitution makes such treaties the Supreme Law of the Land. This Administration, has openly threatened aggression against Iran in violation of the US Constitution and the UN Charter.

This week the House Appropriations committee removed language from the Iraq war funding bill requiring the Administration, under Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 of the Constitution, to seek permission before it launched an attack against Iran.

Since war with Iran is an option of this Administration and since such war is patently illegal, then impeachment may well be the only remedy which remains to stop a war of aggression against Iran.

1. I agree. If we cut the funds for the war, which would end it, we will be
blamed for what happened afterwards as we were after Vietnam. Impeachment will lay the truth out on the table and allow the American people to see just what is going on in their government. We may only be able to get the House to impeach, the Senate is unlikely to be able to get the votes we will need for an indictment, but the total truth will be out in the front for people to see.

3. The Democratic Party
Is de laminating to a lessor extent than the Republic party.

But make no mistake, the faux centrists are resisting the new power of progressives.

They are spending political capital and taking positions on issues like Iraq that are not going to work out so well for them next election cycle.

Is Hillary coming out in favor of a continued military occupation or Iraq? I saw something about that on Faux earlier.

That is political suicide in pursuit of the mythical swing voter. Show me the voter who believes in the continued military occupation by American forces of Iraq that is ever going to vote Democratic party, and in particular for her.

The voting bloc she is after is no longer there. They have shifted away from stay the course and are now openly saying screw the course.

Anyone who thinks that the old school has anything left besides money going for them may be in for a rude surprize when their candidate triangulates herself out of the race.
