Former U.S. Attorney: Why I Was Fired
Exclusive: John McKay Says White House Didn't Like His Handling Of Disputed Election

(CBS) President Bush says he is troubled by the Justice Department's misleading explanations to Congress of why it fired eight U.S. attorneys, but that the dismissals were "appropriate." In an exclusive interview with CBS News correspondent Sandra Hughes, one of the fired prosecutors says it certainly wasn't in his case.

..................

Justice officials say they had a problem with the way McKay shared information with local and federal law enforcement officials. But McKay believes it was what he didn't do that got him fired.

A Democratic candidate won Washington state's 2004 gubernatorial race by just a couple of hundred votes. McKay didn't call a grand jury to investigate questions of voter fraud, and he heard about it when he sought a promotion.

"I did apply to be a federal judge last fall, and at that time questions were directed to me about the 2004 governor's election in Washington state," he says.

Shortly after, McKay was listed as a U.S. attorney "being pushed out" in an e-mail between the Department of Justice and the White House.

2. GOOOOOO John McKay!
It's death by a thousand cuts.

Every day he gives the MSM a bit more, and every day they cover it.

I am LOVING this.

the reporter said clinton fired all 93 at the beginning of his admin.

didn't I read that was a false statement, (or at least misleading)

otherwise the report painted a clear picture of a dedicated and effective atty who got kicked in the seat of the pants

edited to add: misleading

seems presidents clean house at the beginning of a term Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush

but now Bush is killing his own appointees because they did ask "how high"

4. It is misleading, because it is SOP to replace all, or most, US Attorneys
at the beginning of a new term - the job expectancy is 4 years. What is unusual is for a sitting USA to be replaced in mid-term, particularly after receiving favorable performance reviews. Which is something that has happened only very rarely (something like 6 time in the past 30 years, and none had good performance reviews -- all removed for cause).

thanks for the additional information... I haven't been paying as close attention as I should! All these scandals get so confusing, and now that baseball season has started.... :)

6. I'm having trouble keeping up because of basketball
so I know where you're coming from. However I do love it when my addictions overlap. In fact, I'm still on Cloud Nine from Colbert's endorsement of my last night.

7. Also unusual is that they tried to subvert congressional confirmation for all replacements.
That big red flag alone should make people scratch their heads when they hear this being compared to Clinton.

8. "shared information with local and federal law enforcement officials"
Um, aren't US Attorneys *supposed* to do that?
