It's happeneing!
It's all coming into confluence today, my friends. They pushed the envelope a BIT too far this time, methinks.

We've all seen those wonderful posts that archive the numerous BushCo. scandals, and we've collectively expressed amazement that none of them have resonated strongly enough with the American people to catalyze meaningful change. But this time, they went too far. Those "activist judges" don't take kindly to politicians mucking about in the legal system.

This, my friends, WILL be, sooner or later (preferably the former), the proverbial straw that breaks the proverbial camel's proverbial back. I have this sneaking suspicion that ultimately, a Constitutional crisis WILL emerge over this obvious attempt to subvert the judiciary, and this time, the SCOTUS will NOT side with their Republican overlords. Will they do this because it's the right thing to do? NO!

But that doesn't matter. They'll refute the fascist Bush doctrine, both foreign and domestic, once and for all, but only out of the selfish desire to retain some vestige of their power and influence. Fine by me. I don't care how the goose gets cooked, so long as it ain't still flapping its wings when it gets to me.

This time, they went too far. Hell, they've crossed lines that I didn't even know existed, repeatedly, without some much as a yawn or raised eyebrow of condemnation. But I firmly believe that THIS is IT. Even the much vaunted MSM won't be able to downplay this one. Yeah, we'll always have that core 30% or so that thinks that Bush is, well, just dreamy, but they're utterly irrelevant at this juncture.

This is it, people. The wheels have come off the bus, the rats are deserting the sinking ship, and if WE, the AMERICAN PEOPLE have the courage and fortitude to get off our collective asses and reclaim our once-great nation, then the tyranny and criminal subterfuge that we have endured throughout these recent long-suffering years will FINALLY be no more than a distinctly unpleasant memory.

Today is the day. Do your part!

28. I know what you mean
I've lost count of the times I've thought "this one is it! No one, not even the somnolent public, will put up with this." Every time, I've been left with my jaw hanging. I feel like repeating Randi, "My God, what won't you let them do to you?"

Still, this one is really big. And, as I watch Valerie Wilson as we "speak," I'm starting to have hope again.

5. They've pushed the envelope before, the only thing that's different this time...
...is an opposition congress with subpoena powers.

I also take issue with the contention that a 30% idiot approval rating is irrelevant. When we regularly have 50-60% turnout in elections, a dedicated 30% of the population can become a majority real quick-like.

I just have to reply to this cause

If bush has approval of 30% of the total population, but only half of the total population votes - most likely means that he has approval only of the corresponding 30% of the population that votes

come on now

26. That's not the way it works, though
Edited on Fri Mar-16-07 01:46 AM by 0rganism
If the voting public were a straight up representation of the census public, you'd be right, but it isn't.

Different demographic groups vote in greater percentages, which is why a straight-up approval percentage over the general population is going to miss some important things. For instance, W's approval rating is under 10% among black voters, which is generally great news for Democrats -- but it's been harder to get them to reliable polling places, harder to get all of their votes counted in high-turnout elections, and a significant percentage of the potential black male vote is lost due to a higher-than-average felon disenfranchisement rate.

Similarly, W's approval rating is much higher among above-median income white suburban voters, who seldom have difficulty casting votes. It's down lately among evangelical Christians, but how likely are they to cross over during a presidential election?

That's why the art of the pollster in predicting election outcomes has been to adjust the scientific flat sample to reflect an accurate weighting of the actual turnout. Once that approval rating is tweaked for likely vote, I bet W's bunch does at least 10% better. Add to that the fact that many who give W low scores now are people who would never vote for a Democrat, and it's not a done deal by any stretch of the imagination.

6. IMO, this statement really hit the nail on the head.
Those "activist judges" don't take kindly to politicians mucking about in the legal system.

Man, feddie judges are something else. Most run their courtrooms like little fiefdoms. I have appeared before enough of them to know how they view the law ~~ not that all are so great as judges, but that they are ABOVE stuff even if they have have dipped their fingers in some questionable things. And they are FREAKING power hungry. Now that applies to MOST of them, but not all of them. And the ones it does NOT apply to? They are the honest ones who are going to be offended as hell that anyone would even THINK of screwing with justice like this. So the WH cabal is screwed on this no matter who they would appear before ~~ assuming any of this leads to criminal charges.

If any of those azzhats are charged because of the scheme to rig investigations by screwing politically with the US Attys office, I would hate to be in their shoes. Those azzhats were playing with the system that GIVES these feddie judges their little fiefdoms ... and THAT is gonna be taken like shitting in some nests they just should NOT have screwed with!

8. The CREW catch that the WH was using the RNC email system to hide their activities is BIG
THis one fact will open up all kinds of evidence of their corrupt practices.

There is no defending their using the RNC to subvert the record keeping required under the Presidential REcords Act. The RNC email system is now fair game, and the exposure will likely shock and amaze most Americans...

12. Someone here said it the other day...
You don't start a land war in Asia, and you don't fire lawyers.

The turning point in the Watergate scandal was Nixon's "Saturday Night Massacre" when he fired the lawyers. That's when his own party turned on him.

I believe this will be the turning point for Bush also.

Finally!

I left after graduating from the University. I've lived all over the state -- in the Charleston area now.

With another West Virginian on board, maybe we can get some more conversation going on the West Virginia state forum. There haven't been any new posts there in two months nor comments on old posts in nearly a month -- not even one to "celebrate" WVU's invitation to the NIT.

34. If it weren't for SCOTUS eliminating their separation of powers
and enhancing the executive branch of government by bypassing the expressed will of the people in 2000, we wouldn't be in this current mess. That historical colossal mistake they must realize, but what makes you think they will express that they rebuked the very intent of the Constitution then, any more than they will rebuke B* and Rove's and AG Sleazy Gonzales condemnation of the Constitution and U.S. laws now?
