Who would Bush appoint to replace Gonzalez?
We know it's not going to be Patrick Fitzgerald, Ramsey Clark or anybody to the left of the far right.

With her initially being blamed for the scandal, I don't think it would be Harriet Miers.

Would he bring back Ashcroft?
Ed Meese?
Bill Barr or Dick Thornburgh from Poppy's Admin?

He might be too controversial, no?
Didn't he come up with the whole legal rationale behind justifying torture?

They are all Republicans. The Dems should demand that one of them replace Gonzo.

5. Fred Thompson
It would keep him out of the 2008 race as well as blur the lines between entertainment and the REAL law and order that office should be serving.

17. My money's on Thompson
Granted, the odds are not good, but he has already been given the task of keeping John Roberts from tripping over his shoelaces on his way to the Supreme Court, and I can't think of any obvious negatives.

10. Bush's problem is that he needs Senate confirmation
I actually agree with Time Russert's assessment. The only reason Gonzales isn't GONE-zales already is that the Bushies are worried about replacing him if they have to get confirmations from a Democratic senate. They can't nominate the first Bush-ite asshole they find, and that makes major problems for an administration that is basically an outlaw entity. If you have a REAL Attorney General, then you have REAL special prosecutors, REAL indictments, and REAL jail time.

15. Probably another sycophantic suck-up, no?
Edited on Fri Mar-16-07 08:34 AM by mwb970
I mean, consider all the swooning women that Bush has surrounded his office with - Pickles, Condi "My Husb" Rice, Harriet "You're So Cool" Miers, Karen "Godzilla" Hughes, even Mary "I Love Dick" Matalin - and of course, the suckiest suckup of them all, Alberto "Torture OK" Gonzales. It's amazing we can even make out his lying denials with his lips pressed so tightly to Bush's butt.

What is it about this obvious jerk that attracts women and womanish men like flies? And where will he find another one for AG - one that can be confirmed by a Democratic Senate?

P.S. One other thing - why are all these people from Texas? Bush, Cheney, Rove, Delay, Gonzales - sheesh, it's a virtual invasion. Maybe we could give Texas back to Mexico and claim that the whole administration is now illegal aliens. How else are we going to get rid of them? After all, it's not like they're going to have sex so we could impeach them.

19. I wish to retract my previous position. I was wrong. It's Fielding.
Edited on Fri Mar-16-07 09:00 AM by Lobster Martini
I was wrong. The likeliest choice is Fred Fielding, who replaced Harriet Miers as White House counsel. Considering that corpses like Ashcroft, Cheney, Baker, and Gates have already been pulled out of their coffins and given desk jobs, a current White House counselor who worked for Richard Nixon, John Dean and Ronald Reagan is the perfect new AG.
