I love Senator Leahy but
I will be severely disappointed if, on March 22nd, the Senate Judiciary Committee doesn't hold a vote to subpoena Rove. Do I actually think Rove and the WH would comply with a subpoena? No, but the Judiciary Committee needs to TRY to compel him to appear.

I believe we're very, very close to a Constitutional crisis- a showdown between the legislative branch and the Executive branch, and that the sooner it happens, the better. I've thought for a while now that the most likely place for this showdown to first erupt, is the Senate Juciciary Committee. Let's hope the vote takes place next week, and that they vote to subpoena.

1. Leahy has given every indication he will get to the bottom of this -- why are you disappointed
about something that hasn't happened yet?

Agreed 100% with you on your second paragraph -- THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!

2. I'm not disappointed yet
I just have a wee bit of trepidation regarding the vote actually taking place- and I think it's vital that it does.

4. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that they will probably
blow the thing off. Given the history - you are
right to be leary.

3. You know what I would bring up? That Rove talked about the
whole thing, in public, at some stupid dinner at
Troy University the other night. So it's either
secret or it's not.

So what happens if he doesn't respond? Isn't
Cheney still under subpoena for records of that
infamous energy meeting where they carve up
Iraq off a map on the wall?

5. C-Span yesterday afternoon had
this on their quarter hour crawl under the picture....Judiciary committee votes to subpoena both Rove and Miers.

I thought I could depend on them.

I guess the vote they were talking about was that it was agreed if they didn't come voluntarily, they would be subpoenaed. And I fully expect that will be the case--if no other way--on straight party line vote. We win.

6. I share your concerns..
on the one hand it is very encouraging to see so much action taking place in the various committees. On the other hand, there is a long history of investigations used for the purpose of further obscuring criminal activity and putting on a show of concern. It's hard to have confidence with so much polluted water under the bridge that has been allowed to fester, and further contaminate the sea of politics.

7. Nah, Senator Leahy's outrage about
bushco and Gonzo is real, and I don't for a minute think he's cover up repuke criminal activity, but I do worry about him getting outflanked.
